Rimando - 5

Prideaux - 5
Boswell - 5 (own-goals happen)
Namoff - 5

Gros - 6 (shouldn't have been subbed)
Carroll - 5
Simms - 5
Gomez - 7 (only guy that kept us in the game.)
Kovalenko - 3 (terrible passing, disinterested play)

Moreno - 4 (Moreno version 2002, lazy play, held the ball too long, didn't pass when he should have, no bite, drawing the PK simply wasn't enough - would only get 3 without that though, should have done MUCH more because he can do much more, should have been the leader but wasn't.)
Quaranta - 3 (was he even on the field?)

Wilson - 6 (nice energy)
Walker - 5 (not on par with his last couple games, looked like a reserve this time)

Rimando - 5
Prideaux - 2 (Our wings got beat all night long)
Boswell - 3 (bad game but lots of covering for Prid and Namoff)
Namoff - 2 (would have been a 3 but the stupid red knocks him back down)
Gros - 4 (great on offense but got caught up field way too much)
Carroll - 4
Simms - 4
Gomez - 5 (good service on 1st goal but what else)
Kovalenko - 4 (nonexistant)
Moreno - 2 (oh Moreno - how many times did I say that last night)
Quaranta - 3 (where were you buddy)

Wilson - 3 (play the ball in faster - with all the chances he had one needed to lead to points)
Walker - 3

Rimando- 5.5 Where was the defense?
Prideaux- 5 Most active defender for me.
Boswell- 4 Own goal, bad positioning. LD schooled him.
Namoff- 4.5 Nice goal, not so nice defending
Gros- 5.5 I don't know why he got subbed either
Carroll- 5 Overwhelmed without Simms in the second half
Simms- 5 When he left the defense took a big dive
Gomez- 6.5 Glue
Kovalenko- 4.5 No spark
Moreno- 6 It's kinda hard to dribble at a set defense
Quaranta- 5 I wish he had gone in the middle more

Wilson- 4- Not good- did worse than Gros and didn't help the defense much
Walker- 4 "Give me space, give me land, give me starry skies above- don't fence me in!"

Looking at the scores above I want a minute to defend Moreno.

Okay. LA comes in with a good game plan. Keep the defenders back, don't allow DCU to pass over their heads or use thru balls to create chances. Any team that does that against us immediately render Kovalenko, Wilson, Carroll, Simms, and Walker ineffective. They can't dribble past opponents and they have no air game. Quaranta has an air game but he chose last night to stay on the wing (Nowak's orders?) and so we had no air game at all except on set pieces.

Sampson also had Nagamura and Vaengas concentrate on Gomez. Christian did a great job holding the ball but the defense basically pushed him away from the goal so the only thing he could do was to pass it to another player rather than shoot himself. But who was he gonna pass it too? As I said most of the DCU players couldn't- and didn't- do anything with the ball that was in the least threatening. It was, as Hudson used to say, "Possession without penetration is masturbation" all over again.

Except Moreno. He was the only one who could make headway against 4 defenders. No one helped him. he would look for overlapping runs from his teammates- never happened. He would hold the ball successfully while looking in vain for help to make the odds better than 1-on-4- never happened. So he would try to dribble to get open. He created a PK, banged the crossbar.

Yet people are giving him low scores- lower than his teammates who did nothing to support him? I don't get it.

Rimando-6
Prideaux-6 - don't usually like him, this was one of his better games
Boswell-5.5
Namoff-6
Gros6-6.5
Carroll-7
Simms-6.5
Gomez-7.5
Kovalenko-5
Moreno-6
Quaranta-6.5

Wilson-2 - ever heard of a cross? Ball should have made at least 6 extra trips accros the front of the goal.
Walker-4 - I saw him subbed in, never saw him again

Refs: -3 - refs seem determined to decide the results. The ref's assistant on the supporters side must have had a broken flag. It went up when there was no offsides and stayed down when there were clear offsides. Score should have been 4-2

Rimando 6.5 one ridiculous reflex save in addition to a good game.
Prideaux 4 Ball in air + Brandon on backpost = Oh Shiite.
Boswell 4.5 bad luck on goal but his lack of speed showed this game.
Namoff 3.5 two boneheaded plays. One cost us this game. Next game?
Gros 5 Usual hustle from the soph. Wish he was still in on Gomez' cross the 6.
Carroll 5
Simms 4.5
Gomez 6 I thought he was dogged in the 25th minute. Hung in and hustled.
Kovalenko 5
Moreno 4
Quaranta 4

Wilson 5 I would rather have him on the backpost clearing headers.
Walker 4

Skip, it sounds like this is a one way street. You are correct in that he wasn't getting a lot of support but I have to say he wasn't giving it either. Too many times he is walking or jogging up the field on change of possession or breaks. Plus he was a major liability defensively by giving up on players with the ball in his zone. He's the captain and should be leading by example.

There were a lot of bad reads and miscommunication this game. Our goals didn't come from good team play. This is what it will be like in the playoffs. Not like the games against Chivas and Metros.

Yes

Don't like it? Tough sh!t.

Feel free to post your own ratings prior to criticizing someone else's. In fact, that seems to be your M.O. every week. People post ratings, you say how bad they are, but you don't post ratings yourself.

Rimando - 5.5 - Some good stops and was hung out to dry. Can't get much higher rating though with three against.
Prideaux - 4.5 - Very good first half followed by a dismal second.
Boswell - 3.5 - Tough game. Let's hope we didn't witness him hitting the rookie wall.
Namoff - 2.5 - Goals are nice, and that's why he's this high. Second yellow for dissent? In the 90th minute? Stupidest move of the year by a United player.
Gros - 4.5 - Active. Would be nice if he could serve a ball that even scared defenses a little. Him crossing is like when United used to be so bad on corner kicks that the other team would just clear it over the line and play defense on the CK. The defense gives Gros space so he can't go 1 v. 1 and he serves a poor ball in that the other team has no trouble with.
Carroll - 5 - Good game, but not having Olsen in there really didn't help.
Simms - 4.5 - Nothing to write home about. Definitely Olsen's backup.
Gomez - 6.5 - This guy is so good it's not even funny.
Kovalenko - 3.5 - Tough way to end the three game scoring streak.
Moreno - 6 - No help from anyone but Gomez. A half inch and an incorrect call away from a hattrick. Hitting the crossbar stunk, but he had a beautiful goal incorrectly called back.
Quaranta - 3 - Continues to be up and down. This is where a healthy Esky would help because Quaranta would have to fight for his spot on the field harder.

Wilson - 4 - Not much of an upgrade.
Walker - 5 - At least he was mobile up front. Same can't be said of anyone else really.

Rimando - 4.5 - The goals weren't his fault, but I saw a few "Nicky" moments out there.
Prideaux - 5 - Looked steady, but he was part of a defense that let 3 in.
Boswell - 4.5 - Except for the OG, pretty good, but it cost us the game and he was part of the defense that let 3 in.
Namoff - 5 - Thanks for the goal.
Gros - 5.5 - Why did he get pulled?
Carroll - 4.5 - Again, decent, but he is effectively part of the D.
Simms - 4 - No passion out there.
Gomez - 5.5 - Worked hard and put in a full 90.
Kovalenko - 3.5 - Dude, after the last three games, where the hell were you?
Moreno - 4.5
Quaranta - 3 - Just when I was starting to respect the kid

Wilson - 5 - Busted his ass, but didn't seem to know what to do in the corners (or had a lack of outlets when he did).
Walker - 4.5 - Good energy, needed to do something with it though.

Nowak - 4 - I trust you, but this is the second time i've questioned your subbing tactics.

Even though the individual ranks were higher, I would give the whole team (mainly the offense) a 3. There was almost no coordination going on.

I can only laugh - Tino has been terrific over the last month plus and he has one "off" game when everyone on the field sucked and showed no heart and we have one person who lost respect for him and another saying if only Alecko was healthy he would hustle more

I didn't say I lost respect for him (you have to have something before you can lose it).

This is what i've been worried about with the kid. He'd have this nice strech and then go into another rut (injury induced or not). I truly hope i'm wrong about the kid, but i'm not about to find out what pretty colors my face will turn ;)

Well, yes, kinda. To whom would he have crossed the ball? Against 5 or 6 defenders in the box, the only plausible targets for DC were either playing defense (Boswell et al) or were not in the game. Crossing the ball to Moreno, Gomez, or Walker, all closely marked, would not have been anyone's first instinct. The fact is DC's offense does not currently have an answer for the kind of tightly packed defense that LA was playing.
