I guess I'll throw in the States' #10 FIFA Ranking and Colombia's #39.
Yup, Colombia's got the US's number head-to-head since '94. Still, the two haven't faced each other for 2 years.

in a country of 35 million -20 thousand put the bad name and you still go out and make ingnorant comments?!
this thread is about goal scorers! keep it futbol (not as cultural faulted children of the mighty dollar)
today carlos Ruiz scored on a rebound by former MUTINY GREAT Scott Garlick.....he still is no where to be found in the score board of MLS standings.
as far as el PIBE: It will take colorado a player like Manny lagos and Eric Quill to complement el PIbe, he left for Money matters not soccer abilities (even at 40) - Tim Hankinson has non of that in the 2003 version of a pro-club, that is the last in a small liga of 10! and a shame display of futbol for Usians, they should have retired all-together with carlos valde and do us a favor!

its amazing how quickly americans forget things. like the fact that they and the brits singlehandedly got most of coastal china addicted to opium. waged a war to force it on them even. and yet now when the US goes out of the way to get drugs from every corner of the world its somehow afhganistans fault, burmas fault, colombias fault.
but (LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE ON BIGSOCCER) thats off-topic. as is the MLS vs MFL argument.
MFL is better than MLS.
the level of play ( among the best teams ) is better than in our league. granted the average MLS team could probably wipe the floor with _____ but we do lack the quality to say MLS is better than MFL. tigres morelia monterey these teams have STAR south american talent. they make it to the semis of a tournament in which the U.S. would be lucky to see a team out of the group phase.
we lack the stadiums.
we lack the fan base.
MLS IS LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD. and frankly the idea that MLS as good as MFL is quite insulting to a league that quite OFTEN has sellouts. that has thousands of cheering fans and 100 + years of history.
regardless of the difference in the level of play between the two leagues which, overall, is not that large, its still noticeable. so if Ruiz was scoring more goals than Cardoso you'd probably have to take that into account.
but he ISN'T.
cardoso broke the record for goals scored in a tournament last season.
cardoso is an unstoppable force in front of goal. he has had success in mexico and to some degree at the international level as well.
ruiz had a good rookie year.. but alot of people in MLS have had a breakout year.
what remains to be seen is can Ruiz keep it up? can he increase his goal-scoring tally? can he score some in the CCC? Gold Cup? WCQ?
personally i prefer Ruiz. he's a dirtly little cheat. and i like that.
but if i could have one of them and ONLY one right now (that is not for a couple of seasons... cuz saturnino is getting a wee bit long in the tooth) i'd take cardoso

Ok, I have read most of the posts in this thread & just thought I'd throw my $0.02 in.
First & foremost, I'm an American-Colombian and PROUD of my two countries.
As far as statements about the drug trade, yes, Colombia produces it, but where does the demand come from??
That's right, the good 'ol USofA!!!! And that's a FACT!!!!
Now, back to soccer or better yet, futbol.
1) Ruiz or Cardozo?? Well, being a fan of the Galaxy & MLS, I have to say I'll take Pescadito ANY day of the week & twice on Sunday!!
Of course, I haven't seen Cardozo play in MFL (aside of what I've read or heard).
I'm not a fan of mexican soccer at all (being a USA supporter), and think that the MLS can hold its own v the MFL or any league in the world, expect for the EPL, Serie A or La Liga (Spain).
2) I have to admit that one of the GREATEST days in USA soccer was beating Colombia in the '94 WC, but that was NINE years ago & the USA hasn't been Colombia since. Of course, it was on the world's biggest stage. I find it hard to talk about this match-up because of my allegiance to both countries. However, I am an American & will ALWAYS cheer the USMNT, first & foremost!!
3) Colombian soccer gets a bad rap & IMO doesn't get the kind of coverage, internationally, that the MFL gets, despite being on an even level if not better. Colombia WILL be back on the international scene VERY soon, mark my words!!
Get ready, Germany, for the American & Colombian invasion in 2006.
Sorry about the length of this post, but wanted to state my thoughts & opinions.

today carlos Ruiz scored on a rebound by former MUTINY GREAT Scott Garlick.....he still is no where to be found in the score board of MLS standings.
as far as el PIBE: It will take colorado a player like Manny lagos and Eric Quill to complement el PIbe, he left for Money matters not soccer abilities (even at 40) - Tim Hankinson has non of that in the 2003 version of a pro-club, that is the last in a small liga of 10! and a shame display of futbol for Usians, they should have retired all-together with carlos valde and do us a favor!
Calling Scott Garlick great at any point in his career is a big stretch.
Also, 5 goals for Ruiz looks like it puts him in 2nd in MLS goal-scoring, with 2 less games played.
I'm not going to waste time being an apologist for the Rapids. That would be as dumb as hiring Tim Hankinson.
Also, Valderrama didn't leave for money, by all acounts. Hankinson didn't want him. In truth, he was immobile and didn't play defense. Don't get me wrong - Carlos was an amazing player, despite age. His passes were expert, like his ball control and shooting, when he did. He just wasn't a two-way player. If it was a money issue, it wouldn't explain how Colorado dished out a league maximum salary to Grimandi plus $100,000 for a signing bonus. And after he left, $270,000/year for Darryl Powell. Also, they added to other internationals in Alberto Rizo and Zizi Roberts. I wouldn't think by the subsequent signings Carlos' departure was financially based.
That, and I'm intrigued how Manny Lagos or Eric Quill would help in any way.
I'd make some retort about your drug assertions but I can't quite tell what you were trying to say. I never denied the demand. I just pointed out the supply's source.
Though, being a non-drug addicted youth of America, I'll have to deny your claim since you present no evidence to your allegation.
But, back to topic now!
Carlos Ruiz scored twice in the opening of the Home Depot Center - the first off a rebound header from a rare Scott Garlick save and the second from the penalty spot.
Also notably, he pulled an impressive bicycle kick in front of goal. Too bad it didn't go in.
