Hi BTW guignol. :)

...Monsoreau [was] signed strictly as cover in case anyone went down.like abidal now and cacapa can do at any time.
berthod has been sharp in practice and did well on the left against auxerre, but that was not to be expected.

monsoreau is more than a fill-in. he's going to have to step into captain claudio's shoes one day soon. those are darned big boots to fill, and they picked the right boy to do it.

Hi BTW guignol. :)
ciao LW!

Who's Govou
http://skysports.planetfootball.com/player.asp?plid=6600&clid=143
http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/FootballFicheJoueur9262.html

a homegrown striker/right winger.
pros: good speed, strong leg superb technique and amazing agility, (the opposite of a diver, it takes a magnum to bring him down in the box). he's not big, but when he takes his shirt off, you see the strength!
cons:muffs some of his easiest (and biggest) chances, like in the first leg against PSV last year. prone to "tunnel vision", he's not selfish, he just doesn't see the teammate with a better shot. a party guy reputation which was much deserved but he's cooled his jets now.

how much15M€ on the barrelhead, take him or leave him. and he's not going to pitch a bitch to leave, so that's that.

why would he be a fool to come here?not a fool to go to spurs, maybe a fool to leave lyon. he's been french champion 4 times, and he may be leaving just when it's getting really good. imagine how papin felt watching OM lift the cup from the milan bench...

Ouch, think we'll pass but thanks all the same. ;)

Ah, I thought it was a style or system thing. LOL. I always chuckle when I think of Papin. A little like Owen last year. Sucks to be them huh.

Thanks for the info guignol.

Take it easy.

translation from today's olweb:

Frederico Chaves Guedes Fred has signed
It’s official… Frederico Chaves Guedes better known as Fred has signed for 4 seasons with OL. He’s the last recruit for the four time French champion. This reinforcemment was presented to the media this morning. He will wear the number 11.

Président Jean-Michel Aulas:
It’s a great pleasure and a great ambition for the club to welcome one of the most effective players Brazil has seen. Moreover, he’s young and hopes to continue to progress. Fred was solicited by numerous european clubs. The deal took a long time to arrange. The cost is 15M€ for 100% rights. This year's recruiting campaign has been very big; Fred’s arrival brings it to a close. I’m very proud, with the help of Bernard Lacombe and Marcelo, to have brought off this deal that Gérard Houllier wished for. This recruitment has been the biggest in the club’s history, a total of 45M€, partly financed by departures and the rest out of existing funds.

Fred
I chose OL because the club inspired great confidence. It’s a club that has become well known in Brazil. I know that they integrate foreign players, especially Brazilians, very well. It’s vey important for me to play in Europe in view of the Selecao. There were many contacts with Séville, Milan AC, Nantes, Marseille. I know almost all of Lyon’s players because their matches are televised in Brazil. Personnally I only know Cris. My role model? There are many, but my reference is Ronaldo. On and off the field, notably his desire to come back after his knee problems The difficulties to succeed? I’m not afraid. When I left America for Cruzeiro, I didn’t ask myself a lot of questions. I never think of the worst. I’ve heard about the supporters. They tell me they always stand behind the players and they’re just great.

Gérard Houllier
The club had reports about him from avec Marcelo. We didn’t really believe we could get him because of the competition. There were some feelers put out last season, but Cruzeiro didn’t want to let him go.Carew has speed, and he’s an anchor point. Fred is more of a finisher with a great talent for keeping the ball. Sometimes he’ll play with John, sometimes he’ll replace him… if we want to show ambition, we have to have the means. There were departures that we have filed with the arrival of Monsoreau and Pedretti. What keeps a manager awake at night are injuries and not having a competitive team. The players at Ol are not stupid… they know the club’s ambitions. For the moment we have been relatively spared from injury, and are still only playing once a week. Everybody contributes to the success of a great club. My principal challenge? Results. In a big club, when a good player arrives everyone’s happy. If you look at our calendar, you see that our internationals will play 10 matches in September, in October… our aim is to win without burning out our players. Do I have confidence in the young players in the club? I have two fine kids, Benzema et Ben Arfa. They’re progressing but they’re not mature yet, but the have the essential : talent. And they have a good attitude. After that, it’s a question of patience. Govou? I repeat what I said when I arrived here. My position hasn’t changed. I want to keep him.

Bernard Lacombe
I saw him play went I went to look at Cris. In fact I saw him score his first goal for Cruzeiro. He’s a box player; he smells the goal; he turns easily, has a good right foot and an excellent aerial game. He’s like Bianchi, Onnis. He’s the player Gérard Houllier wanted. It’s true I see a lot of myself in him.

I really wonder if they had the funds after the Kalou transfer.
