Well I don't know if anyone noticed, but Fabio Grosso broke a rib against Cyprus yesterday. We are royally screwed in the fullback position now.

I thought teams could petition to sign a "joker" if there's injuries.

It's been a long time since I've been around here. The mix of school, work and the emergance of my (really bad) local team have taking my focus away from Lyon for the past little while. I've still been following them loyally, and finally I will get a chance to see my beloved Gones live.
I'm planning on going to the match on the 18th of October against Lille. Can anyone give me information on the best way to get tickets and where in the stadium to get tickets for? (basically cheapest section)
Also I plan to be in Lyon for the day prior to the game at night. What area of town would you suggest is best for a first time visitor to Lyon?

Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) has some cool bars. I really appreciate the history and nostalgia there.

you can get tickets online at http://www.olweb.fr/index.php?lng=fr¶m=9f86c3bd-0d29-49fc-9815-3305fbea4ab5&pid=501003 (you'll have to register, it's free)
virage nord is the place to go; supérieur is where we sit, you see better, it's 30€. inférerieur is 16€; you'll be with the bad gones so even if you don't see as well it should be fun. the VN is also the easiest in/out, whereas virage sud is the worst.
vieux lyon is indeed the best place to go. a day's sightseeing would include taking the funiculaire up to fourvière to see the roman amphitheatre and the basilica, and the good bars there are headed imo by the saint james and the smoking dog.
if you want to eat just before the match there are lots of kebab wagons around the stadium, but the best plan is to get off at station debourg and go to the kebab just across the street ali baba i think it's called now: better kebab, colder beer, better value and a place to sit down. it's only 5 minutes walk from there to the stadium. note that after the match it's better to walk to that station than stand in line at gerland station... unless you want to spend the wait (and more) at ninkasi, a microbrewery cum nightspot just across from gerland.

Hey guys, thanks for the good info!
I'm actually also planning to go watch the game between Lyon and Lille. I'm not a Lyon fan per say but I do love futbol and of course Lyon is the best team in France.
I am going to be mostly in Geneve for my vacation trip but for the weekend of October 17-19 I will be staying in Lyon. Fortunately, Lyon is playing that Saturday, what luck!
Breakwood, I'm also a Canadian and have lived in Tdot for half my life, are you planning to go with a lot of friends? I am going to be buying my ticket soon.

I am going to be going with one of my friends from London, Ontario, as she's in France on an exchange. I'm also meeting one of my friends from Toronto who is working in Geneva.

Well my match tickets and hotel are purchased. I'll be in Bloc H of the Virage Nord Superieur. This will be not only my first Lyon match, but my first of any team in Europe.
And to think I'm missing Toronto's last home date of the season for this. Oh well I think it will be worth it.

Too bad we missed you. My friends and I went to Ali Baba's and we all agreed that it was a fantastic recommendation. It was great to see Lyon live for the first time, even if we didn't get the 3 points. The skill level on display on that game was miles ahead of what I'm used to in MLS.

i was sorry to miss you too... judging from your first photo i think maybe you were there before us?
did you get a chance to talk with any other fans in the stands? they would have been happy to see fans from abroad, i know we always attract attention in the metro speaking english with our scarves on... they seem disappointed to hear my son was born at grange blanche and is lyonnais de souche.
how was your day? what did you see?

Yeah we got there pretty early. We got into Lyon in the afternoon, and after checking in to our hotel we just relaxed a bit, since we didn't really have any time to see anything because of the match. We went fairly early, stopped at the Kebab shop, then checked out the club store and walked around the ground. We didn't end up going out after the match though, because i was dead tired. I had just flown in to France the day before and at 11pm I was spent.
On Sunday we went to the markets on both sides on the Saone River? (the one that seperates Vieux-Lyon from the part of the city where the Hotel de Ville is. After the markets we climbed up to the Basilica, and walked around in there for a bit. We then went down and walked around Vieux-Lyon for the rest of the afternoon. Had a drink at a bar where the bartender was Canadian surprisingly. Then for dinner we went to a scottish bar next to Gare Saint-Paul, that again surprisingly had a Canadian Rugby logo on its awning. Unfortunately we had to catch the train back to Angers that night, so we couldn't really see the rest of Lyon.

what's going on with the right back position at Lyon? noone can stay healthy at that post.

Yes this position is clearly cursed! Anyway a new player has to come during the winter break. Gassama is too young I think to play all the game until Francois Clerc is back.
The good thing with yesterday's defeat is the game against marseille will be very important and everytime Lyon had to play them when they were dangerous in league Lyon won easily. And nothing could give me more satisfaction than a big victory against marseille!

the team looks like shite without juni and karim. plain and simple. This team has a tough go when its missing parts. The bench is not deep. Keita doesn't have what we need. It's time they think about looking elsewhere. Piquionne was absent. No engine. Even Toulalan is making uncharacteristic mistakes.

Can Benzema make it vs us or not? Is there a confirmed answer or pure speculation with a yes/no twist..?
