1 goal already in the 9th minute against Nantes courtesy of a Juninho free kick.

Well even if the strikers are still in a slump it would be good to have the cheap goals back.

super busy today, so can't give you all my impressions, but OL was really clicking friday. juni put in a nice FK to open up the match early, and get his setpiece confidence back, plus, he was just imperial, dribbled the whole canary midfield twice early on, just to prove (to himself?) that he could.

benzema, fred and nino also very smooth up front, they put together a festival of combinations in all directions and flavors... the first half was a treat to watch.

abidal played a good match, and djila contributed forward, since the midfield didn't need much cleaning up. clerc was very good, a couple of great plays by greg, too. the only disappointment was pedretti, despite being "fresh" he just got all walked on.

second half was slower, of course, but even so 4-0 would have been a more logical score than 3-1.

nantes isn't PSV, but this match was a great warmup and confidence builder.

gerland was pumping. the BG leader either didn't need a mike to stoke the crowd or he was drowned out, i didn't hear him at all.

bring on the batavian assassins!

carew is 100% healthy. he hurt his foot against ajaccio 3 weeks ago and it nagged him but only kept him off the squad one match (bordeaux)

abidal yes, he'll start, and he looked great against nantes.
RVR no, it's unclear when he'll be back. training info here: http://www.olweb.fr/index.php?lng=fr&pid=104001 regularly updates caçapa's remaining time in sickbay for his torn thigh muscle(now 2-3 weeks) but simply repeats the original statement for anto and monsoreau:

RVR: an MRI showed a slightly detached femoral biceps.
monsoreau: is in tratment for a muscle stretched in the bordeaux match.

no word on how long... however, clerc is showing himself VERY capable of filling in on the right, so much so that he'll certainly start over diatta tonight.

Lyon 1-4 Rennes
Can you believe it? Horrible loss
There's one more league game before hosting PSV, right?

Hmmm. I was a little shocked by the outcome of this match. Is it just CL week letdown, or was it a good showing by Rennes...?

I dunno, but it was Utaka's second hat-trick in a row, quite remarkable.

i hope this results will remind the Club, players and coach that Lyon is not on the top of league and Cl yet, so keep progressing.

well, they just stunk, what can you say?:o and utaka is in a state of grace, which didn't help; rennes was perhaps the worst team to have to play right now. the only bright spot is no one got injured. hopefully they'll take it out on ajaccio next week, and PSV after that.

wow. i just read the headlines and im really surprised. thats quite a big loss.

i guess things could start heating up in ligue 1 now with a confidence boost like that

luckily bordeaux couldn't get unstuck against metz, in fact they almost lost too. you can say this can be a wakeup call for OL, but until now they haven't needed one, they've been very focused. Bordeaux may or may not keep up their recent form, the answer for OL is just win, baby! and looking at the games remaining, they should do a lot of that. if not, no excuses!

you may have read in SkySports that govou injured his shoulder:

"Govou fell awkwardly at a friend's house and dislocated his shoulder after the surprise 4-1 defeat to Rennes at the weekend."

first, further examination shows he'll only be out 1 week (and since he is suspended for OL-PSV anyway...)

second, something not being said is that the friend's house is at La Clusaz http://www.snowchalet.com/images/la-clusaz-ski-map.jpg

what an idiot!
