Harkes, who captained D.C. United to two MLS Championships in 1996 and 1997, will take the field for the black-and-red for the first time in more than seven years.

Well, if you don't include the testimonial match 3 years ago....

Is JH6 already burning up phone lines with United trying to get Harksie's jersey? :)

Actually, it's the other way around. They've called JH6 to borrow one of his.

Dema was wearing #6 up until that game, where he switched to 21. I wonder if Nick van Sicklen will change numbers too? It seemed to work out OK for Dema. ;)

Way to take one for the team, Harksie. There's the answer to our depth problems with these meaningless matches cluttering up the schedule, put Nowak and Harkes out there :D

Seeing Nowak out there playing in a black jersey would be absolutely brilliant.

And make Fire fans everywhere weep.

Ramos declined to play because he wouldn't wear another team's jersey. I wouldn't be surprised in Nowak holds the same view.

If Ramos was really going to wear the jersey he spent most of his MLS career in, it would be a Robert Wood Johnson hospital gown.

Ramos, who spent all of his MLS time as a MetroStars midfielder, was also offered a chance to play, but instead will watch his former U.S. teammates from the sideline. "My MLS career was in the MetroStars strip. I can't imagine pulling on any other MLS uniform."

"Besides [sniff, sniff] neither team picked me. [sniff, sniff]" :o

The HOF game is simply for the inductees to enjoy the comradry and joy of the game one more time. It's not about making a statement, Tab. John Harkes will wear any kit to play in this game because John has the humility to know his induction is about his relations to others with whom he has played and to the greater soccer community.

Congratulations, John.

What a fitting tribute - a replay of the 1997 MLS CUP:

Balboa playing for Colorado
Harkes playing for DCU

Tab watching the game!
