England #7 (4-1 loss yesterday, hello)?

Poland #12?

Greece one better than Italy???

My God Mark, please don't quit your day job. Those rankings are almost as bad as FIFA's.

England's match was a friendly, but they moved down 2 places yesterday. you can't expect a team to drop 20 places after one bad result in a friendly.
Are you saying that Sweden should be lower? They beat the Czech Republic last night.
What about Poland? Lower or higher? They are top of their group.
Greece are the champions of Europe. They are slipping down, but it takes time. Italy had some bad results, but are on their way up.

SectionX -that may be so but you guys arent ahead of Portugal, Germany, England, or Italy. I personally disagree with placement of Czech, Sweden, Croatia and Italy. And IMO Brazil have a greater lead in points to the rest.

Not to mention i think Argentina are 2nd ATM

The ranking is not that bad. Might I ask how are the points being calculated?

I use a complicated formula which I have invented myself 9 years ago.
I calculate an expected result and put it into another formula with the actual result to calculate the points.

Wait so the fact that Sweden won in a friendly is of huge consequence but the fact that England got destroyed in a friendly does not matter?

Then you award Poland for leading their group which only features an England squad on poor form, but Italy leads their group and that does not matter?

I will also be the first to give Greece praise for what they accomplished in Portugal 2004; however, we are a long way removed from the Euros, and they have rarely looked like recapturing that form since.

Finally, I have a really hard time believing that there are sixteen nations in the globe with better squads than Italy. What are the poor results you speak of? They only have one competitive loss in three years!

Comprising a ranking is a difficult thing to do so I understand your task is not easy. I just wanted to point out a few things I disagreed with on your list.

Thank you for your comments. Actually England got -0.2 points for their defeat while Sweden got +0.1 for their win. Plus that every team gets +.03 for playing. So England getting thrashed was more significant.
I didn't award Poland for being top of their group; they got points for the results.
You would expect the champions of Europe to be among the top 3 in the world, but as you rightly said; Greece are not playing like champions. This is why they are much lower, and will continue to slip if they don't improve.
You were right about Italy; they should be higher. I made a mistake with one of my results which I will fix and make the necessary changes. Thank you very much for making me notice it.

Those rankings aren't half bad. You'll never satisfy everybody, but you did a good job here.

Do you weight friendlies differently from competitive matches?

It would also be kinda cool if you could explain the formula on the website.
