ive just begun following english soccer, and based upon my welsh heritage i have been following swansea in league 1, i listen to their games over the internet, however i also want an EPL team to follow that i can actually watch their games. Based upon the fact that the other part of my heritage is english and from the part of england including Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Newcastle, ive decided it ought to be one of those. I am going to watch these teams as much as i can to see which team grows on me, but if someone could help me with the following it would be great:
1. I like to root for an underdog, example, I HATE THE DAMN YANKEES, but at the same time i want a team that will most likely at least stay in the premiership
2. I can not stand a team that is poorly managed, for instance, I am a long time NETS fan, but some of their personel decisions have about made me go mad
3. any other general information about what these clubs are like, their fans, etc would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance for any help!

It is very important that you find out which area of the North East you are from. The three clubs have a very tribal fans. Finding out which city , or town in S*nderland's case, your roots are from would be the easiest way to decide which team to support.

As for you questions, if you like to root for the underdog then a North East team is for you, apart from Boro's league cup a couple of years ago we haven't won anything of any note since '73. If you don't like poorely managed teams then Newcastle, at the moment, isn't for you. Maybe in a few months when Souness is sacked then you can come and join us. Newcastle and Boro are both firmly in the Premiership but S*nderland are heading for relegation this season.

As a Newcastle fan I am not unbiased so i will suggest that you support Newcastle. We have more fans, better fans ;) , on paper a better team and a larger support on BigSoccer.

If Newcastle don't take your fancy then I suggest Boro. They have a good team and a good manager. The fans and much much better than the SMB's and actually know something about football.

Which ever team you choose Boro or Newcastle....ENJOY!

thank you for the help, my roots are from new cassop, so what does that tell me?

i agree on newcastle or boro, i think im going to watch both this weekend and see what i think. So i will decide upon what i see, what anyone can tell me about new cassop and what club they usually support, and also the fact that my fav team, swansea, conflicts with boro only 4 times before the new year, while they conflict 9 times with newcastle.

more input please!

Never heard of New Cassop, but there is a place called Cassop in Country Durham. Could you mean here? I'm not too familiar with County Durham but normally all of the small villages and towns had Coal Mines in or near them, but since the Tories closed them down they have become smaller and basically commutor villages for Newcastle and other towns.

If this is the case then traditionally you would have supported either Newcastle or Sunderland. The support used to be divided about 50-50 but in recent years it's more like 50% Newcastle 25% Mackem and 10% Boro and 15% Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool.

If you want to know more about Newcastle some good sites to visit are www.truefaith.com www.nufc.com and for tickets and offical club business www.nufc.co.uk

Also come and look on the Newcastle forum there are many people who will be more than happy to help you out.

Don't be a SMB willy. I will have to disown you, even though you are a Swans fan...;)

Why not be a Darlington or Hartlepool fan? They will appreciate your support.

But its a choice between Sun'lun, Newcassel or Pigbag FC, I'd choose Sunderland any day.

The Monkeyhangers are not a bad team to be honest, but they will never be a big team...

The past few years they have been truely spoilt with success. I think they will struggle this year.

Darlo are Darlo. Hmmmm. Could be a good outside bet to go up this year and have a nice collection of former Boro players playing for them...

The problem with the Monkeyhangers is that their chairman is a nutter, every time they get a decent manager he sacks them. 3 managers have been sacked by him when they have been promoted or made the play-offs.

Darlo....I like Darlo, i prefered their old ground. Much more character, the new ones if just too big.

If you want another option try the Hammers, we have half the Welsh squad playing for us and (as I'm sure Toon-Toon can atest) we are pretty well managed at the moment, great defense.
If you think we might get relegated, there is a quick answer, NO CHANCE!!
Another plus is this Iranian wants to buy us and dump $100 million or so on new players, exciting times at UP (Upton Park ;) ).

Ps. I will still meet you sunshine when we play Arsenal at St James' Park sunshine. I do believe you will owe my 100 nicka. Eh that cant be right. A Cockney giving a peasent Geordie skum 100 pounds of his hard earned Cash.
