Sorry if this has been discussed, but didn't find it in a quick search. Just noticed those golden arches during last week's DC-Chivas game. Also saw Dominos. So these appear to be local deals for the teams, as opposed to league sponsors.

Does anyone know:

1) Are these only for AEG teams
2) How much they cost compared to MLS sponsorships?

Thanks,

Tim

What in the world are you talking about? Are you talking about the ticket deals (4 tickets and MCD meal money for $ 64.95)? If so, those are local sponsorship deals, struck by individual teams.

I'm talking about the field signage.

They are local sponsorships. Neither one is a national sponsor.

Right. That said, MLS will probably have an official quick-serve restaurant eventually. Might depend on whether PepsiCo retains their sponsorship long-term, and I can't see why they wouldn't. If so, then a Taco Bell/Pizza Hut sponsorship might happen down the road.

Although McDonald's currently sponsors most of the teams locally, and they are obviously a big sponsor of most major sports.

Thanks for the reply. So, doesn't that make McD's and Dominos the smart ones? They get their signs on the field for the teams they care about (image they want to protect/markets they want to promo) and pay less money? They can still buy ads on national broadcasts (you know MLS is salivating to sell the inventory).

What's the arrangement for local vs. national sponsors? How do teams get the rights to replace a Honda or a Bud sign with a McD's sign?

Pollo Campero should be the Official Fast Food Restaurant of MLS.
