I know I know, almost no one gets ESPN2 HD yet, but this still bodes very well for the future qualifiers and especially next years world cup on ESPN2.
As many already know, ESPN2 - HD will debut on Direct TV September 8, 2005.

I'll be out of town. The one time I can watch a soccer match in HD and I'm out of town...

ESPN (and ABC and Fox) does HD in 720p, not 1080i. Direct TV's HD isn't as high quality as it could be, so it when ESPN2 HD comes to Direct TV, it won't look quite as good as it will on Dish or most cable systems. But at least it'll be on Direct TV first.
It's too bad this game is not on ESPN HD, which many people actually receive. I'm at least hoping for HD highlights on SportsCenter. I will check a couple of local sports bars to see if they get ESPN2 HD, but I'm not optimistic. still, it's a step in the right direction. HD is terrific for soccer, and hopefully all the Germany games will be available in HD.

Aggghhhhh! How can TWC not have the deuce in HD. painful, painful, painful. Its almost worse knowing the game is available in HD but have to watch in SD. I just pray that the broadcast of the world cup will be in HD but i'm not holding my breath.

for those of you that have big screens tv is the picture quality of a soccer match usually pretty crappy like compared to regular tvs or is it just my tv. although HD soccer is awesome

Yep, I agree with all the above. After watching MLS and the USNT on HDNet, it's tough watching soccer in SD again. My cable company (TWC) carries ESPNHD but not ESPN2HD. Aargh.

The US-Mexico game will be on ESPN Classic so having ESPN2HD on September 3 will do you no good.

This is a bit off topic, but do any of you get Rush HD in the Voom package? It's only $5/month for Voom on Dish Network, but it seems Rush would be the only thing I would watch. They seem to carry some Spanish games in HD. Any advice?

I'm pretty sure this has everything to do with college football season and nothing to do with the timing of the US/Mexico match.

Are you guys sure the game will be in HD? Just because the game is on ESPN2, doesn't mean that the'll broadcast the game in HD. I've seen plenty of baseball, basketball, and football games on ESPNHD, but they were all in Standard Definition. Don't get your hopes up, it's very expensive to broadcast an sporting event in HD. I doubt that ESPN or US Soccer will pay for it, the ratings just don't justify it. Come to the game, see it live! Go USA!

that site is wrong I believe.
I think ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 all show 720p (but I could be wrong).

a station can only do one or the other. everything else on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 is in 720p, so it's a mistake.
"All high-definition programming on ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD will be delivered to cable systems and satellite providers in the 720p high-definition format. "

To the question earlier about quality of SD broadcasting of espn2. Jeebus, it truly sucks. I'm not sure what is going on over there at espn2, but they must be doing a massive compression or all of their cameras have been out of focus for soccer so far this season. Hopefully, the SD broadcast will be reasonable for this game tomorrow night. I get a little woozy watching the underwater cameras on espn2 SD these days.
I don't really care that much if it is 720p v 1080i. Anything is better than the 80res that they're working from on espn2.
So when will we know if the world cup will be in HD?
