He looks more mature and so is his game ..... something Convey's bashers will agree on ...

He was brought here for a reason and i think he's shown that.

"Gaffer"? Good Lord, he's gone Friedel on us.
Good stuff for Bobby. Let's hope that he builds from here.

The game write-up on yanks-abroad.com says that he had two assists, one a fifty-yarder with pinpoint accuracy. I don't think anyone wants to see him fail...although bashers I guess would say they've already seen that happen enough. Between him, Twellman, and I guess maybe Quaranta, the T&T game could be a watershed. (And if they show poorly, they can be sure to be taken to the Big Soccer woodshed!) Time will tell.

It will be very interesting how Bruce uses Convey and Lewis against T&T. Lewis undoubtedly has had the more impressive national team career to this point. Lewis is a better shooter and better crosser. But I really think Convey has more game. When playing with confidence (and I will admit this hasn't happened often) he can break down a defense in a lot of ways. His dribbling, passing and off-the-ball running are better than Lewis. He has more soccer intelligence. I think it makes a lot of sense to go with Lewis at left back and Convey in midfield.

you bring up very good points, but really, if a semi-knowledgeable coach came into the situation and all he knew about the players was that one of them was 22 y.o. and the other was 31, i'm sure he'd put Lewis in D and Convey in a more attacking role. I could be wrong though.

Lewis, Eddie 5-10 155 05/17/74

Pure speculation, but based on what we read from Lewis on the ESPN chat, I could see something like this happening:
-----McBride---Donovan-----
Convey-O'brien-Reyna-Ralston
Lewis-Gooch--Conrad-Albright
------------Keller------------
http://espn.starwave.com/i/sn2.gif Eddie Lewis: (2:14 PM ET ) Wednesday night might provide some interesting answers. In general, I would like to have a spell at leftback although I haven't had a lot of experience there, I think it's a natural progression for me. Considering it can keep both players like myself and Beasley on the field at the same time, I think it can be a real advantage.
Emphasis mine...

I think Berhalter starts instead of Conrad and Armas instead of Ralston, which means a box rather than diamond midfield.

Convey has always had a "european" style of game. He'll wind up being a good center/left midfielder for us. It's taken him some time to get used to the style of play over there, but he is a quality player.
I hope we win, but I hope Armas has a bad game. I think Armas is tough as nails, but he passing/shooting/dribbling leave much to be desired. If Armas has a bad game, that frees up a spot for the WC roster for someone more talented and versatile.

I really don't think you need to wish for that. Armas is a known quantity. What we should hope for is that some younger contenders have good games, enough to give us a better option. If this does not happen, you will see Armas for a while, and thankfully so.
In other words, why hope for Armas to breakdown when we haven't identified his replacement yet?

Are you kidding? 90 minutes is more than enough to erase a season.... IMagine, if Arena called him while he sat on the bench... now he must make him a no-brainer starter and captain for life!
Kidding aside, hopefully that first game was a sign of things to come from him, and that he found some consistency in his game.....

Herer. I'll rearrange a bit what Nutmeg posted above into a box:
-----McBride---Donovan-----
Convey-O'brien-Reyna-Ralston
Lewis-Gooch--Conrad-Albright
------------Keller------------
Of course it can be a diamond too:
-----McBride---Donovan-----
-----------JOB
Convey--------------Ralston
-----------Reyna
Lewis-Gooch--Conrad-Albright
------------Keller------------
I think folks are just missing how much of a splash Conrad made in the Gold Cup.

Excellent news and best of luck to him. Bobby has always been in favor with Bruce regardless of what had been going on in England. Anyways he apparently had a good preseason and seems to be getting adjusted to playing over there. He's 22 now which generally seems to be around the age most of our players start to really bloom. Hopefully he can keep it up
