Just when you thought the Arsenal season got going, it's going to take a hiatus for 2.5 weeks. Due to the August 27 Liverpool game being reschduled and WCQ on the weekend of September 3rd, our nascent season will get a 2.5 week interruption. So, we have two nice derby games to look forward to, then nothing until September 10th.... What are you going to do to relieve the boredom:
a. Like Sol, work on your "fitness?"
b. Watch the world-cup qualifying games, because at least it's something?
c. Watch football, the american kind?
d. All of a sudden, start caring about the baseball wild card race?
e. Go "on-loan" to the Middlesbrough forum?
f. None of the above.
g. All of the above.

Typical mid-sized city type stuff. In its heart, Columbus is still a college town. You have to realize that Columbus has only hockey and soccer teams to compete with the Buckeyes and those have only been around for a few years (ten for the Crew and less for the Blue Jackets). A city this big, without professional sports, had to latch onto something. College football was that thing. Imagine "Fever Pitch" and replace Arsenal with Buckeye football and you can grasp about 85% of the populace.

Drink a lot. Well, in the old days, at least. I understand Kirwan and his Campus Partners cronies have "cleaned up" High Street, although I haven't been back in a good 3 years to see for myself.

It is officially cleaned up. They basically no longer wanted the campus bars running as they had been so, there has been a lot of changes in the last three years.

G - all of the above. That is if working on my fitness means drinking plenty of the black stuff while playing FIFA!

Fortunately, your choice in English football redeems your choice in college football.

This should be a great Big Ten season. Of course, I am completely focused on Premiership but, I'll find time for both.

g. All of the above. Er, well, most of them.

a. Like Sol, work on your "fitness?"
Have to find it, first! :D

b. Watch the world-cup qualifying games, because at least it's something?
c. Watch football, the american kind?
Y & Y, when the Mrs. and parenting duties allow. Though it's tough to be as enthusiastic about college football for us GT fans... :o

d. All of a sudden, start caring about the baseball wild card race?
Bravos don't need no stinkin wild card!

e. Go "on-loan" to the Middlesbrough forum?
Middlesbrough has their own forum?

That's what I've heard; my sister still goes to school there. I know Kirwan came down hard on fraternities as well, although I was never big into that scene. I can't imagine they've managed to do anything about all the random house parties one is likely to find just by walking a block away from High.

H. Take my girlfriend away for the weekend as a "Sorry you lost your hearing listening to me scream at the TV the last few Saturdays and Sundays, and sorry it will continue like this until next May, with the addition of a few Mondays and Tuesdays (my time) when the Steelers are on" present. :D
