This was probably posted already but Daniel Hernandez just signed with the Revs... Maybe he is trying to get back on the radar. I always thought that with a little maturity he would be a great player. He at least thinks he deserves a look from Arena. He is eligible to play Aug 17 for the Revs.

While on the surface, this would seem to be a "I want Bruce to look at me" move, there has to be more to it. Arena, from every indication, has seen him play on video, and that he's not been brought into camp is an indicator that there is more than visibility working against him.
As a defender in the Mexican league, your role is largely ornamental. Hernandez has talent, and perhaps even USMNT talent, but he's been in a league where his skills aren't able to be used, much less showcased for national team consideration. If his skills have advanced since leaving MLS for Mexico, he's not in a situation to show that.
MLS, as a whole, plays a very structured, defensive-oriented game. He's actually joining the team that has the most offensive-oriented approach, and will be under a coach that Arena seems to respect.
In other words, if he has his eye on the national team, this is a extremely smart move. At 29, it's hard to imagine that he has any shot at 2010. Getting himself into a situation now where can show his talents in a structured defense, where there are offensive responsibilities, will allow him to show what he can do.
He also makes himself easily available for a call-up after qualification is secured, and he's quite likely trying to show Arena he wants to be considered. I'm not sure he will be, but this move at least makes it more likely that he will. He can play center-back, or a D-mid role, and that flexibility may help him get a look.
Should be interesting to see if he gets a camp invite at some point, as it'd would just add further competition for positions. Beyond Onyewu and Gibbs, it's hard to see any of our CB's as locks - Pope, Berhalter, Conrad, etc... And other than the often-hurt Pablo, Armas and Zavagnin have yet to lock anything down. Competition can only help our depth......

Come back when he dislodges Joseph in the lineup.

Pretty sure this was an "I fell out of favor at Necaxa" move.

Didn't he go a full 90 in their first game?!

Should have gone back to his home town,Dallas. At least he could live at home. I do think that he came back to get Arena to look at him. He was starting regullarly for Neccxa. I don't think Arena would look at any player at any position playing in Mexico. It would make MLS look bad.

He's obviously getting himself rested up in anticipation of the phone call from Arena.
If he's that smart, is there any doubt that he should go to Germany for the USMNT next year?

he is behind Shalrie Joseph, who is probably the best player in MLS.THAT is who Arena wishes he could cap.

I don't think that's any of Bruce's concerns. He has said you have to maintain a starting spot, whether it be with the LA Galaxy or the Bogota Barracudas of the... er... Liga Colombiana de Domingo...
