Out of MLS until completion of a "substance abuse and behavioral health" evaluation. NOT a good sign.

I believe that report is on Edson Buddle, not the GAM.

Yeah, this is really gonna impact the national team, what with all the call-ups Bruce has given him.

Yeah, but after he scored a brace in the first week (or second week) of the season a few months back, have was voted by 80% to be starting on the USMNT in a poll conducted on BS. I'm sure that out of those people, some have got to be disappointed.

Let's look on the bright side. Whatever he took, such events and press releases are more proof that American Soccer is becoming a major sport. ;)

From the Columbus Dispatch (August 4)
Buddle charged with DUI
The status of Crew forward Edson Buddle for a game Saturday in San Jose has not been determined after he was charged with drunken driving and several other vehicular charges during the weekend.
"No comment," general manager Mark McCullers said when asked whether Buddle would be suspended. "We will have a statement after we review all the facts."
Buddle, 24, was arrested by Columbus police and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to comply to a police officer, reckless driving, unnecessary honking and wrong-way driving. He refused a Breathalyzer test and a court date has been set for Monday.
He did not comment last night.
Court records show Buddle has 14 traffic violations since joining the Crew in 2001, including speeding, excessive noise, no plates and driving with a suspended license.

of course, one could ask why this on the US Men's board since .... well, you know.
but if he's like some people I know, he probably plays better drunk.

What a waste of talent this guy is. He's got all the tools, but with no work ethic and a serious attitude problem. I mean excessive honking? this guy is a total a-hole. It's not like the guy was going to get called up prior to this incident so whatever.

Except for the honking part, we could be talking about Mathis here

Moderators, please move or close this thread. What does Edson Buddle have to do with the USMNT?
Given how many times this board has been filled with "call in Edson Buddle now" posts, I'd say his getting suspended from league play due to personal problems tends to add some clarity to the thoughts of those that felt he lacked the maturity to be a factor for the USMNT in 2005/2006....
Plus, he's been capped, and it's a discussion regarding someone who is officially listed in the player pool with the federation. If a cap Chris Rolfe thread can go on for as long as it has, I don't see why a Edson Buddle is screwing up his career thread is so inappropriate......

he's a young kid. I hope he can straighten his life out and learn from his mistakes. I don't see that it's neccasary to personally attack him however

Edson Buddle is NOT a young kid.
Edson Buddle was born May 21st, 1981.
He is 24 years old... nowhere in the world does that qualify him for kid status.
He's a grownup... and anywhere other than the sports world he'd be expected to act like one.
I hope he learns from his mistakes, but we can't chalk this one up to the exuberrance of youth.
