I read the other day that it was Mourinho that made John Terry skipper. Which makes sense, but I somehow had it my head that Terry had been captain for awhile.
I did a quick check but couldn't find out how had been the Chelsea captain prior to Terry. So I figued I would just ask here, just out of curiosity.

I was watching Chelsea TV Online yesterday, they were interviewing John Terry right after the Community Shiled game, and he was told by the person interviewing him that it was his 100th game as a Chelsea captain. So, obvioulsy he was a captain way before Jose came.
Desailly is probably honored to have such a man fill his shoe.

Maybe he was before Mourinho. The only reason I started thinking about it was an article I was reading - in UEFA magazine, I think - that told of how Mourinho pulled Terry aside on a flight after or during the pre-season USA tour last year and told him that he was his man. It made it sound like Mourinho was bestowing the captaincy at that point, but perhaps it was just a confirmation.
I kind of figured it was Desailly, but I couldn't find any confirmation. I figured either him or Zola.
Thanks.

Ranieri several people in as Captain, I think he changed it several times during the season.
In his last full season, he actually had three captains at the same time.
Only he knows why

Desailly was team captain (i.e. on the field), whilst Zola and Le Saux (I think) were club captains, more involved with off the field activities (interviews, publicity etc). However, I don't remember him changing the captain throughout the season, it was always Desailly when he played, then Zola or Le Saux.
John Terry was appointed club captain by Jose when he was appointed manager, but captained the side several times in 2003/04 (and possibly on rare occasions before that), when Desailly did not play (either suspended, injured, rested, or just dropped because he was pretty ******** in his last season at the Bridge)

could this be a hint that your support of the team only goes back 1 year?

Why would an Arsenal fan know that?

Of which team? I don't support Chelsea. And if you are referring to Arsenal, yes, I've only supported Arsenal for a bit over a year. Which is how long I've followed the sport. Prior to that, I didn't even fully understand everything about the game and the sport, let alone know more than a couple players and a half dozen clubs. Like a lot of others, I got turned onto both soccer and Arsenal by reading "Fever Pitch" by Nick Hornby.
Thanks for the explanations, guys. Just a curiosity itch of mine that you've helped me scratch.
