anyone who thinks Syracuse is a better town for vacation than Blacksburg is on crack.
Trust me: if not for the fact that I attended school there, the chances of me ever visiting Syracuse for vacation are roughly 0, although they do have a salt museum there.

yes!! Outer Banks....Rick this is the spot...North Carolina; the Wright Brothers...surfing, good seafood, hottie beach girls....WRV!
Ryan is correct. This is seriously my favorite place on earth (so far). It is the most perfect place. Something for everyone. I guarantee you I will have a house there some day.
You can catch the ferry to Ocrakoke too and see where Blackbeard was beheaded. They have recently started bringing up pieces from the bottom of the ocean from a ship wreck that they believe to be Blackbeard's. The area is known for it's many ship wrecks so if you are into diving you can take a tour diving down to some of the more accessible ones.
The other direction, Duck/Corolla has great restaurants and lots of shops...plus you can drive to Virginia on the beach!
Before you even cross over to the islands, the town with the bridge to cross over (Manteo) has some great historical sights and an outdoor play, The Lost Colony, which is based on the colony that supposedly disappeared in Roanoke (but in reality probably simply lost a lot of its members to illness, fighting, and natural causes, and the rest were most likely absorbed into local indian tribes hence the Ocracoke inscription (a local tribe) left on the tree).

I dunno, beach doesn't really strike me as appealing at the moment. Kind of holiday where you go with a girl and relax in the Sun. I'd like to see stuff and visit places.
ya sure ya don't want to visit those bath houses in Hot Springs? LOL

Richmond, Va: Has a neat musuem inside what used to be a classic train terminal. And I'm alsways shocked to see such huge tankers coming that far inland for port. Other than that, I only note Richmond for it's AAA baseball team, a Braves affiliate.
Savannah, Ga: Cool but tempered with common tourist traps. That plus River Street lost some of its flare when one of the chain hotels was allowed to build over the street and connecting with the docks. A very cheesey post-modern design, too boot. Best viewed away from River street and meandering through the historic squares going from pub to pub. Great for St. Paddy's day and a nice arts scene thanks to the local college. If you've not been to either one, I'd say Charleston, SC is slightly ahead of Savannah in overall appeal. The two cities are huge economic rivals.

Yeh, not really my kind of town to be honest - think back to conversations in the Globe........ ;)
LOL, yeah, I didn't think of that. :o
I was just thinking about all of the history there. But considering that the history is things like the Boston Tea Party, etc. maybe you wouldn't like that much either.
Washington D.C. is a very interesting town to visit and so is Philly.

And at Duck, there is the coastal laboratory and pier where they carry out all kinds of experiments and measurements of coastal processes and wave transformation. Oh wait, I think I am the only one that enjoys that! ;)
I did hear that they have some cool bars though!
Ocacroke is supposed to be really cool. A buddy's parents used to live out there.

Rick, there are TONS of great course in Myrtle Beach. My dad used to go with some buddys and would play 36 holes a day at different course each time. Had a blast. I need to make that trip sometime.

The Outer Banks are great but not the easiest place to travel to.....well at least not from Atlanta. I've found that flying into Norfolk works best. Then rent a car and it's only about 2 to 3 hours to most places like Kill Devil Hill, Duck or Kitty Hawk.
