Do you need information about Celta de Vigo, Racing de Ferrol and S.D. Compostela? Well, Deportivo La Coruña, too, although I don´t like it.

As Celta Vigo have just been drawn against Celtic FC in the Uefa Cup, I am trying to gain information on the club, like where approximately is the stadium located (say relative to the main train station), what is their average attendance, who are their best players, and where is the nearest main airport.
Any information gladly received, as it is my wish to come over for the game.
Cheers
John (ManchesterCelt).

If you can read Spanish then try this website http://www.celtavigo.net/
Racing might be able to help you out more. The average attendance this season has been around 22,000. I don't know about the locations of things in the city. As far as the team is concerned they have a lot of foreigners, probably the most of any of the teams in Spain. Mostovoi has been their best player for the past few years but they have got some other good players such as Vagner and Jesuli. It should be an interesting set of games. I see Celta as the favorite but I wouldn't be surprised to see Celtic win it.

Racing, sorry to see your team get relegated. They had a good run the last few years. Hope they make it back soon.

Are there any Deportivo la Coruna fans? I've never really seen any posts about them, but I haven't really looked. They are my favorite Spanish Club.

You´re probably right, but maybe he will float back in. He´s one of the best posters. I still remember the thread on his hometown, Ferrol. I personally feel that was the best feel-good thread ever. It was active for over a year, until the crash killed it.
As for the question on Deportivo fans, both Depor15 and Nutmeg list or used to list Deportivo as their favorite teams. They come by and post on occasion.

Thanks, I think I've seen them a couple times, but I really haven't seen any threads about Deportivo. I guess I just don't root for a popular Spanish Club.

I lurk in the Spanish forums much more than I post here. Yes, Depor is still my favorite team. I started a thread about them a while back on the main Spain forum, but didn't have the time and energy to keep it up. I lived in Pamplona for two years while at the University of Navarra, and I took frequent trips to Coruña with my then gallega girlfriend, which is why they became my favorite club. I also had a chance to see Bilbao, Real Sociedad, Alaves, and of course Osasuna more than a few times. At the time, Bilbao was really the only strong team in the region. I am elated that Real Sociedad is doing so well these days.
But my favorite soccer memories are from Coruña. I'll never forget Depor losing the league on the last day, but the city still celebrating like they had won it all. Aside from the San Fermines, that is probably the craziest party I have ever been a part of. My wife's family is from Navarra, and she and I make it back to Spain at least once a year. I make it a point, religiously, to attend a Depor game every time I go back. For me, it's like soccer Mecca.
I wish I could keep up on the team more, but even though FSW has picked up La Primera, Depor never seems to be on enough for me. I still love Fran, Mauro Silva, and above all Donato, but the newer guys like Valderon, Tristan, and Makaay have given us Depor fans plenty to cheer for in recent years. I also regard Javier Irureta as one of the world's very best coaches, and in my book, he can stay at Depor as long as he'd like.

Depor is a very competitive club and I think Irureta is an essential part of that success, the basque lead them to the top! they even had a chance to win the championship in the 35th fixture!

The reason I like Depor is no where near as interesting as yours Nutmeg, so I won't bore anybody with it. I agree that Irureta is a great coach, and I just wish they'd sign him to a longer contract. What do you think about Makaay? The money they could get for him would help buy some essential players but I like how they are sticking to their guns and are refusing to sell him for less than 21 million euros (I wonder how long they can keep that stance)?

Why don't the major Galician teams have their websites available in the Galician language. Barcelona, Espanyol, Valencia and Mallorca all have Catalan versions of their websites, and Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao have their websites available in Basque (Alaves and Osasuna do not). I know Galicia's regional conciousness is weaker than that to be found in Cataluyna or the Basque Country. Have the two major Galician clubs (Celta Vigo and Deportivo La Coruna) not ever played a major role in regionalism in Galicia? If anyone could enlighten me on these matters, that would be great.

No linguistic scholar would agree with you. There are dialectic difference of the Catalan spoken in the the Baeleric Islands and Valenica, and they can call it whatever they like, but they are not seperate languages. In this case the linguistic truth trumps manifestations of regional pride.

I don´t know about linguistic scholars, but about 40 million Spaniards agree with him wholeheartedly!

Celta is going to face Slavia Praha and Depor will face Rosenborg in the previous leg of CL.
Rosenborg is a tough rival for Depor, especially because the norwegian team is in the middle of the season.

Rosemborg will be tough, especially given their form as of late (I know its preseason, take it as the Oporto match!)
