even worse...Sol Campbell makes the list after being injured a ton last season and I don't see Willy Sagnol.

The problem seems to be that he's not a starter for Holland. Just take a look at the nominees, they all are regular starters for the national team. Still I agree with you and think that he should be in there.

It's not a FIFA selection but a FIFPRO selection.

FIFPRO is the international organization which represents professional players. The nominees reflect the choice of the players who bothered to vote.

In other words, Makaay "isn't rated" by his peers.

Looking at the list one might come to the conclusion that it reflects the superior marketing and media coverage of the three top european leagues (Spain, England, Italy) at least as much as anything else, though.

I mean, yes, the top clubs in these leagues pay the most money so it stands to reason they also have the best players, but I think it's clear that the absence of _any_ players from the French (Essien, Juninho) league and only three Bundesliga players is not a true reflection of where the best players played last year.

Maybe they just voted the guys they know from watching TV.
Figo e.g. what the hell did he do last season? Or Samuel?

Makaay has actually been around quite a long time, more than other highly rated strikers in the world now.

I am just happy to see Ze not on that list, that pile of crap. I had to stick my two cents in. Totally unnecessary comment but i always need to voice my opinion on the underacheiving brasilian. Sorry guys.

BTW...No Sagnol is pretty lame, i can agree with the Makaay thing being lame. But man, this fricken list is like the entire fricken Brasilian NT minus Ze, wtf did we have to pick up the wrong Brasilian?? Of all the ones out there why did Bayern have to draw the fricken short straw?? LOL, just felt like pickin on Ze again. :D

Maakay is so deadly that its untrue. This guy probably has the most predatory insticnts of any footballer on the planet. I would rate him amongst the top five strikers in the world.

He is just so clinical, calm and cool. right foot, left foot and his head when he has the ball u know its odd on to finish in the net.

And have u seen him take penalties....iron nerves!

I guess its just bc he preforms much better in Bayern than in his NT!

With his current form he is clearly one of the best forward in the world!
