Who rates him? I think he's pants. And yes I know...i'm clueless and don't really watch games and why would I question SAF's judgement? This kid is not fit to clean Fabregas of Arsenal's boots. He's got no pace, no apparent strength, gives away the ball at every chance and runs around ( wasting energy) like a headless chicken. Can anyone explain why he should be or why he IS in our starting 11 ( at the expense of Giggs in a 4-3-3)?? Would we miss him? I think Fergie should let go of this nepotism BS

I used to think this, but I believe he truly has gotten better over the last year; especially now that he is playing in the middle. He works hard, DOES have decent passing and sees the game pretty well.

First of all Striker ... Gotta luv that avitar!!
I am of the same opinion as you ... I've just recently became a Fletcher fan, he has progressed a tremendous amount since the beginning of last year. He does show good vision and has done well to start some good plays so far this season. I would like to see him get a little physically stronger so that he can assert his own will in the middle, but it will come.

How many times are you gonna start a thread just to bash Fletcher?? Why not bring something new to the table. You've been shortlisted by FUCOF-FFS in the past; now you're on double secret probation...

Fletcher has shown good improvement, I think. Besides, it's not as if we are swimming in alternatives. Also, I am going to make it a point to call something or somebody "pants" in the near future. Gawd I bloody love Anglicisms!

Depends on what you have to say. So far, not off to such an illustrious start.
This kid is not fit to clean Fabregas of Arsenal's boots. He's got no pace, no apparent strength, gives away the ball at every chance and runs around ( wasting energy) like a headless chicken.
Where does any of this come from? The Fletcher I've seen is hardly adept at giving the ball away. To the contrary, to point out his apparent strength since you don't see one, he rarely makes dumb giveaways and is a very solid, intelligent passer. Not to mention his abilities defensively. Average pace? Oh well, guess he'll have to settle for having the same "weakness" as Roy Keane. He doesn't do anything flashy, but in a sense that's exactly what we need on the pitch.
Can anyone explain why he should be or why he IS in our starting 11 ( at the expense of Giggs in a 4-3-3)??
Giggs is a winger, Fletcher is a CM. In what matches have you seen Fletcher truly replacing our only naturally left-sided player?

So... everyone from Scotland is related to each other? Come on, this isn't Tennessee.

I like Fletch but IMO he's not Man United starting quality good. I just don't think he's a very good fit for the club. He's at his best when SAF plays dual CM, because he can't do it alone in midfield so that rules him out as DM and he's not very good doing it alone just behind the strikers and he's not a winger.

Fletcher is not that bad, especially if you consider his age. He has shown a lot of improvement over the last 2 seasons. He definitely has the potential to develop into another Frank Lampard, but he's not there yet. You can legitimately argue that he is not Man Utd quality since he is in no way as good as Keane, Robson, McClair or Ince at their prime.
If we have the financial resources like Chelsea, we can certainly bring in someone better than Fletcher to play at CM. Also, remember that we pride ourselves as a club who is not afraid to bring in the youth players and develop them to their full potential. This attitude is very important for us to attract young players like Rossi and Pique. Therefore, in the long run, I'd say that playing Fletcher at CM is the right thing to do.

I posted in the match thread that Fletch will never be Keane and he'll never be Scholes.. he's different... he's not as hard as Keane, but he's a more creative passer than him. He's not a scoring threat or as nifty a dribbler/passer as Scholes, but he holds his position well and is a better tackler and provides more defensive cover. If he was paired with someone who had just a bit more flair like Jones but was also defensively aware (because Fletcher is not immense in the way Keane is) he could form an excellent pairing.
Its true he's not of the standard of our better CMs like Keane, Robson, Ince or Dunc but in their times but we might be entering an era where we can dominate without a dominating CM because those guys never had Ronaldo, Rooney AND Ruud.

You still have a KFC avatar! ;)
Only after shedding the old, will you be accepted into the brotherhood. :D
But seriously, you deserve special mention as you are one of the converted. You used to think he would never amount to anything in football, let alone deserve a spot in our starting XI. Now you put him in your best XI lineups... and for that, you shall be our official FUCOFF-FFS Patron.

yeah, i have to admit at first I'd be really upset w/ his short passing and his time on the ball... but he's grown into something and his short passing has gotten better and he spends slightly less time on the ball and he actually does positive things with it now.

I rate him. If you watch him during a game, all he does is what is needed. A midfielder has to hang back because Scholes and Keane are foward, he does it. A teammate on the touchline needs an outlet, he runs to an open area. Ruud or Rooney flashes in the middle of the field, he passes it to them. It's very rare to see Fletch do something spectacular. However, its also very rare to see Fletch out of position. He needs to get stronger and he needs more experience but those things will come. He is a key member of the team.
