Nice 3-0 win today guys. I hope all 5 EPL clubs get to the group stages.

Anyway, I saw this on the BBC site:

Man Utd fans protest over Glazers (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/4136634.stm)

Anyway, the article basically covers what they called a "symbolic" protest, nothing wrong with that, but I was a bit disturbed over this:

Old Trafford was far from full as other fans boycotted the game completely.

The fans around the stadium were escorted by police as they sang "I hope Glazer dies" and scuffles broke out as they stopped outside the main entrance.

They entered the stadium around five minutes after kickoff.

"This boycott is symbolic - one game is not going to cripple the club financially," said Oliver Houston, a spokesman for Shareholders United.

"The fact they had only sold 40,000 tickets by Monday and are having to sell them on the gate is a significant blow," he added.

The chants of "I hope Glazer dies" are a bit over the top, right? Or am I missing something?

Obviously this is a very small minority doing these chants (like the neanderthals at Hull City chanting "You're just a town full of bombers" at the QPR fans over the weekend. Sick.), but wouldn't the average member of SU want to distance themselves from this type of stuff?

Just checking in to see what the temperature is like over the Glazer deal right now (and dreading going back to the Arse board that has been infected by ZANI's Didier Drogba fetish).

Comments? Agree? Or over the line considering the current climate?

Hmm... nobody has asked me if I seriously want to build a bonfire, put the scousers on the top, and then put City in the middle, and then burn the ********in lot - like it says in my sig.

But nice try, Coach.

Actually, those few people actually threatening violence against him or his demon spawn, or engaging in vandalism (ie. The MEC) are the ones over the top... and I have no problem distancing myself from them.

I agree. I would not condone any acts of violence, vandalism, or the like, but letting Gayslur know how we feel through protest or song is ok in my book.

It wasn't really a try, though.

And I have been meaning to reprimand you about your sig... ;)

Seriously, though, your sig is obviously an attempt to show your general displeasure with scousers and City in a fantasy vision of all of them raosting over an open fire like roasting pigs. It's a pretty far cry from "We want Glazer to die".

Just my $0.02. Now I'm off to read all about the great Drogba on the Arse boards....

What was their attendance in last year's CL qualifier? (they finished third in 03-04 right?)

Or even better, does anyone know of a place that announces attendances online of individual matches?

Maybe this (some empty stands) will allow for people who deserve to go the match at Old Trafford - some young kid who would otherwise be at home replacing a jerk supporter.

I think this glazer stuff is completely over the top and creating unnecessary problems for the team. I also thought the treatment of rio became excessive.
Glazer has invested a lot of his own money and to suggest he has got all that cash from making ill thought out investments is plain silly. I'd rather we weren't in debt and I'd like to know what his plans are but have yet to buy into the hysteria either.
Ticket prices and prioritizing "business decisions" over team welfare has been in force at Utd and accross football for the past 20 years as have wealthy owners...that was the risk when we floated and we have been happy to collect the $ and the transfer record breaking players that came as a result of it.
Enough already! Time to get behind the club, players etc

No. You are entitled to your opinion. We don't ban people for voicing an opinion. (even if it's unpopular) Unless you're bashing the team, club, manager or fans... which was not your intent. I can understand somebody who has been watching from the outside being fed up with everything.... at the end of the day, Glazer does own the club. Just remember, that the things we are/were afraid of, are things that won't necessarily happen or be seen today, but in the future. Many people are willing to just sit back and root for the team and hope for the best, I almost envy the carefree ignorance that these people can enjoy....

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.....

I also thought the treatment of rio became excessive.

Rio was a greedy and ungrateful twat who deserved every second of that......

No he got all that cash by borrowing it at huge interest from other people.. Glad to see you have an understanding of the situation

You me and a couple hundred million others.....

Ticket prices and prioritizing "business decisions" over team welfare has been in force at Utd and accross football for the past 20 years as have wealthy owners...

Wealthy owners buy clubs with there own money and don't prioritise business decisions based on paying off huge debt..... ;)

Were you happy with Edwards? Was he not in a position to potentially damage the club?
Were you content under the leadership of Kenyon and the plc?
What did you honestly feel about Knighton as he juggled the ball prior to the 4-1 thumping of Arsenal?

I am not saying that there is not a danger or risk under the current ownership situation but at the same time it is not definitely the death knell of all we hold dear either. At this point they own the club and might have more figured out than they have been credit for...or might not..
Either way I don't see much of what is surrounding the club as in it's best interests especially based on what we know rather than assume.
Also I'm not sure what you meant by "watching on the outside" unless you are closer to the Glazers than I assumed you were?
Please don't assume that because I am not hysterical that I don't care....

Or perhaps you have misunderstood. Whilst he has borrowed tremendous amounts of money and that is a concern, he has also invested a tremendous amount of money of his own and stands to lose a fortune and most of his wealth if this deal turns sour. I don't believe that is under debate even by his opponents. This is par for the course in large mergers and acquisitiuons. Again I'd rather not have the debt but the time to complain was when we floated if that is your issue

They very often base it on making money though..still a business decision rather than sporting one

United manager Alex Ferguson introduced Korean signing Park Ji-sung for his debut in the second half and he was unlucky not to win a penalty in front of a 51,701 crowd, more than 16,000 below capacity.

From the MEN:

The crowd for the game against the Hungarians was 51,701 - the most empty seats at Old Trafford ever for a European tie.

Last night the protest showed no sign of going away.

Mark Longden, 46, of Levenshulme, chair of the Independent Manchester United Supporters Association who organised the march said: "The fans are still angry about the takeover without a doubt - and that is reflected in the crowd and the mood tonight."

Sean Bones, 45 of Shareholders United said: "United fans are the most fair generous and passionate fans in the UK. When supporters come out onto the streets like this. It shows there is something very wrong with the takeover.

"This is a peaceful protest, we did not come here for violence but we have been let down by the FA, the government and the Premiership so now we are looking after ourselves.

"We feel this will be a story with a happy ending. We will decide what the future of this club is and we won't stop until Glazer is removed, we're protecting the heritage of the club for future generations."

Meanwhile Shareholders United spokesman Oliver Houston said: "This boycott is symbolic - one game is not going to cripple the club financially. The fact they had only sold 40,000 tickets yesterday and are having to sell them on the gate is a significant blow - it's unheard of.

"Whilst we remain united around Sir Alex and the team, we remain vehemently opposed to the vast and potentially crippling debt the Glazers have forced on to the club.

"The supporters are the true long-term custodians of the club and whilst the manager and the players have a job to do, so de we - and that is to protect the heritage of United and preserve it for future generations.

"This is just the start of a long campaign."

what's the difference between this and all the crap we say about Kenyon, City and the Scousers? Hell, we call Wenger a pedophile in some chants... obviously the majority of the people chanting that stuff don't mean it otherwise Glazer would probably have been dead.

Sure its alarming, but its meant to be... at Saturdays game "Mr. Glazer is a bad bad man, we don't like him very much" will not be an effective chant - it would not deter him or give him pause for thought just one bit.
