thats the team i think that will play pompey on Saturday if there arn't any injuries, mabey Stalteri for Kelly
i'm looking forward to the start of the premiership again and i'm sure you all are :)
anyways i'll predict 1-1 why? cuz we have a bad record down the south coast and have lost on our last 2 visits to Fratten Park without scoring so i'll sit on the fence and go for a draw, start of the season a draw would be a good result, Portsmouth are good at home.
you thoughts?

We never win on the opening day, but this year I am more hopeful.
Yakubu was the real reason Portsmouth did OK last season, without him we should be able to get a win.

We'll destroy them no problem.

We do not do well down the south coast, we haven't scored at Fratton Park since Gazza knocked them out of the cup in '91. (I know they have only been in the Premiership for a few seasons) We haven't actually scored down the south coast since 1999 when Leonhardsen scored in a 1-0 win at Southampton.
That team would be what i would predict.
I think Kelly will start because his fitness level will be high, Stalteri has only played 1 full match in pre-season.
I'll go for a solid 1-0 win with Defoe scoring the goal

I can see the team being this...
Robinson
Kelly King Dawson Edman
Carrick
Routledge Tainio
Davids
Mido Defoe
But personally I'd play Kanoute over Mido. Mido looks slow and off the pace at the moment. I don't think Davids will last the whole game though so they might start with Reid on the left and Tainio in the middle. I just thought Tainio is too good to sit out and can cover Edman well.
The good thing with that line-up is that Davids can slot into left mid to protect Edman, and it can be changed to a 4-3-3 if we want to attack (like we did so succesfully against Porto).
Robinson
Kelly King Dawson Edman
Carrick
Tainio Davids
Routledge Defoe
Mido
And if anyone says Defoe can't play there he managed it on saturday and banged in two goals from that position!

We will win. 0-3. The next day, the papers will be saying that we have a massive chance of doing an Everton and finishing 4th.
We will finish 5th come the end of the season.

Gary Lineker said about surprise teams tonight, he said about us finishing 4th then Alan Hansen said it will be Liverpool- typical.

two fingers up at history, we win 1-3. Mido 1, Defoe 1 and Routledge1 :)
We have a strong team whoever goes out. On paper we are way better, they've just lost their Captain, who they need to replace, also there best striker left. As did Berger and to a lesser extend Stone. Not good preparation for them, and I am not convinced with Perrin as a manager.
Have more confidence in the team. People are really going to be surprised at how good our team can be. The team is gelling well from pre season, and by anyones book it was a tough one, with a bonus of going unbeaten. When did we say that last? .. and yes this is where it matters, but at the end of the day its fecking Portsmouth.

woohoo, first game of the season so close. I'll be camping in northern Ontario so won't even know if the worlds come to end until Tuesday let alone the score -- ohh well -- screw history, we start out with a win at Fratton Park and silence the bell...
2-0 King, Defoe and three points in the bag!

Well he did play it against Porto in the second half and it looked AWESOME. I wouldn't exactly want us to try it the whole time but if we need to attack it's the way to go.
Apparantly Defoe turned his ankle in training yesterday and is doubtful.

Reagrding Pompey, I predict a comfortable 2-0 victory. If we play at 50% then only 1-0. If we really go for it we could break goalscoring records with Davids scoring a brace and Carrick bagging a hat trick! To finish it off nicely, Robinson will put away a lovely injury time penalty.

Anyone know how Pompey have been getting on in pre-season and any injuries that they've picked up?
I understand Arjan de Zeeuw will be off to Wigan and they lost their best player Yak but have brought in Robert who is quality .....when he feels like it.
They also lost Berger....any others?
I guess they'll play LuaLua and Mornar up front or that South African dude they just acquired.
