He's missing the England match as well.

Naybet and Dawson would be an awfully slow backline, no? I fear that's what Martin will end up going with, unless he pulls a fast one on all of us, and we see Davenport or even Huddlestone on the team sheet.

No way will he play 1 centre back with the inexperienced Steo.
How fast is Huddlestone??
I haven't actually see him run. Can he run?

He can run but it's a struggle because he's so bloody big (which is why I don't like him in midfield).
Supposedly Davids pulled up in training too which would be a nightmare if King, Defoe and Davids were all out but I'm starting to think some of those (not the King one) might be rumours to put off Pompey. If Defoe was injured I'm sure Sven would know and wouldn't have spoken about starting him next wednesday.

Ok, so put Gardner/Davenport (pace) or Huddlestone (presence) in along with Dawson. Put Mendes or Tainio in for Davids and put Keane in alongside Mido, they were brilliant in preseason. So instead of 3-0 it'll be 2-0. Honestly, if we can't win with a couple of injuries against Portsmouth then we've all got our hopes up far too much and will not even finish top 6. I think though, that this would be wrong as we will win.

Yeah, if all the injuries are true we've still got a superb team there.
As for centre back I wonder if Jol will go with experience or pace. If he goes for pace it'll be Gardner, but Gardner and Dawson looked a bit shaky against Porto together. Naybet and Dawson would be good but I don't know how sharp Naybet is.
Robinson
Kelly Dawson Gardner Edman
Routledge Carrick Tainio Reid
Mido Keane
Still a great line-up.

Exactly. Lots of depth. Alternatively if King is injured then maybe a change of both CBs is best. Take Dawson out when King is injured and put in Naybet (experience) and Gardner (pace). Simple, case solved.

I've heard Davids is out of this game with a slight strain, Keane may be out for 2 weeks and Defoe is 50/50.
Thank god for all those midfielders and strikers in the squad :D I'd be interested to see Mido and Kanoute up front together.

I was actually going to wait for the Tottenham Vs Chelsea thread to mention Kanoute and Mido together because of Chelsea's physical centre backs. If they do start against Portsmouth Andy O'Brien and Stefanovic will be in for a real physical game.

If anyone wants to watch the game there's a streaming link here...
http://world.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pplive.com%2Fsource.shtml&lp=zh_en
Click the download link in the middle of the page to get the little bit of software. It will come up with some translation error but click the link on that page and it'll start downloading anyway. When that's done just fire it up then choose a channel from the first page of the link above. The Spurs vs. Pompey match is on Soccer Wired - I had a little check earlier and they were showing the Liverpool vs. CSKA Sofia game again.
If it doesn't fire up in a media player I right clicked on the icon in your tray (bottom right of the taskbar) and select the top option. Fook knows what it means because it's in some random language but it did the trick and opened it up in Windows Media Player. It was a bit jumpy at first but settled down within a minute.

Cheers Metro, but whenever I have used these streamers, they never seem to work properly.

It seems as though Robbo will be the captain.

Would you go with Gardner to partner Dawson? or Davenport/Naybet. I think NAybet is too slow, he should just advise the younger players. Gardner has the most experience in the prem, so prolly best for him to start.
Mido/Kanoute up front is something I have looked forward too for awhile. O'brien is a joke as a CB, forgot that he went to Pompey.

Gardner and Dawson, I'm not at all keen on Naybet, and never have been.

I like Naybet, his presence has helped Ledley in a big way.
