When you guys get to the high school season, do you hit this really horrible slump? :(

not really.. but a little at the same time...

i have to change my style of play... I am a sophmore this year... and i played varsity last year... i had to adjust into the speed of play and lack of flare...
our coaches dont put up w/ individualality or creativity much so it sucks...

after last season i moved back to my creative style for club...
now i have to get back into the 1 and 2 touche movement to please the coach... it seems like a slump because i feel like Im playing worse... because i dont beat people and all that... but i guess i have to mach the style of play

joto-What's driving you to be on this team? Ask yourself if it's worth it since you're unhappy with some aspects.

Funny, the only good HS game I reffed last year was a team of Hispanics (the soccer loving, high skilled, attack loving stereotype) vs a school that drew 2/3 from the same club, with the same coach, and same style.

Hah, it's really hard for my to find a club any where in this crappy place (A.K.A. Philadelphia)... My whole family don't want me playing soccer so they don't really help me to find a club ne where......If my HS team ends, life is basically over for me lol...

i have to change my whole mentality when i go to high school from club. during the club season, i played as a sweeper and rarely played offensively. in HS i'm a winger. i have to regain my fitness and now have to get foward. fitness is always the big thing though

i was on varsity as a freshman, too. but we never won a game, we tied once, but lost the rest. I think it was because we had such a young team (6 freshmen) hopefully we do better this year. I dont really change my style too much, unless that is what the coach needs.

I dont know if ur being sarcastic but im also form Philadelphia and there are plenty of good teams in surrounding regions let alone philadelphia itself, you have to figure that some of the top teams in east PA besides delco and leeds are F.C Philly and Coppa ..but if u need help finding a club PM and ill try and help you out possibly suggest clubs in u region so your career dosent end when high school does. good luck man!
But other then that i think someone else nailed it on the head that some people just have to adjust to a diffrent style of play such as myslef becasue there are more nationalities on my HS team then on my club so i have to more or less adjust to them so we can play better as a team even if it takes time and sends me in a "slump".

The only reason that I hate my HS season is that the refs are absolutely terrible.

My college uses a 5-3-2 formation but my coach hates it when the wingbacks (i'm a left wingback) try to bring the ball up along the side, which makes absolutely no sense. I believe that the best style of defense is offense but he believes in us staying put in the back, leaving only 3 midfielders and 2 forwards to do all the attacking. Kinda boring style really... But I deal with it and still have fun.

And hoboman when you go to college i'm sure there's a varsity or an intermural team that you can join.

In Iowa, you get the same great refs for club and HS! :)

We play w/ a 4-3-3, I am a left winger, my style is like a cronaldo and a robinho, my coach could care less as long as I make sapce pass guys and score goals. But there are going to be 55 guys trying out this year, 20 for varsity and 18 for JV alot of cuts this year it is going to suck. I got to give it my best.

The refs blow in my HS league too, one time we had a substitute gym teacher from school who was supposedley certified ref a game and he sucked, the league only pays good money for the refs in playoff games...but o0 well cant have it all.

i dont like the 4-5-1 for HS, but my coach uses it anyway. so for the season we scored a total of 5 goals(yes for the whole season) and were scored on 53 times (so almost 1 goal scored for us for every 11 goals scored against us.)

I never found that I had to change my own personal style completely in high school. I feel moreso that my talent was compromised by lack-luster teammates. As a junior my high school was a top-notch team, which makes it much easier on every player on the team to play their best- whereas my senior year, it was one of the worst teams I've ever played for. We never played any possession. As an attacking mid/striker, I had about 10 shots in 15 games. I was in great shape though, because I was always chasing down longballs that our defense was clearing out, since nobody ever understood the concept of moving around on the field and creating space, so there would be teammates to pass to. Instead, they played kick ball.

I loved high school though. There was just that atmosphere, so much pride in it.

But, club is just something that can't be replaced. Level of play is head-above-heels better. High school is a mixed bag most times, and there's always some(or a lot) that aren't at the level but are on the team because of a lack of available players(at least where I live).

i haven't found a slump in my play between club and high school. the only differences are better play in club ball and different positions. i play AA club ball and play midfield/outside back. in high school, i play centerback or keeper, so the play changes a lot. also where i live, most of the high schools aren't the greatest, whereas my club team played great teams from Indianapolis which is pretty much the soccer capital of Indiana. (indy and evansville.)

Where i live HS is more serious than club, practices everyday unless there is a game, so there really arent any breaks, i wouldnt say that i hit a slump during HS play, but i would say that my coach wasnt too good even tho we won states, but throughout the season, i would rarely start, but i would play every game: 8 starts, 26 appearances, 3 goals, 5 assists (sophomore year).
But wat annoyed me is that at the begginning of the season player A would start and play every game (but he wasnt that good) while player B (who also wasnt that good) wouldnt even get in unless the score was very lopsided; but by the end of the season, Player A would never play, and player B would start, but they both werent any better than at the begginning of the season, then there would be me, who was better than both player A and B, but got no recognition b/c i never really got a solid starting position, which pissed me off b/c i was easily a top ten player on the squad...

But since i have transfered to another school in the area, that isnt as good, but i was approached by the coach and he basically told me that he would be glad to have me. I wanted to do this b/c my old school has like 6 players who are seniors and ALL STATE level players, so i wouldnt have really been noticed there, where as at JHS (my new school) i will be a stand out my junior and senior years...

Wow, I basically did the opposite. I transferred to be on a good team that will be in contention for the state championship every yr. I know I might not stand out this yr (sophomore yr), but if I work hard I will have a chance at being all-state the next two yrs. Why would you transfer if u won states?
