Yeah, I just posted it in the extende Rio thread. Now will all the Rio doubters & haters please calm the ******** down? Granted, he was far from in the right here... but we need him, and there is no denying that.

Agreed. It's a nice little sigh of relief, another headache alleviated. Now about that midfield...

The haters will deny their hate after all this anyways. No point shoving it back in their face.
Now let's get back to making sure Rio can emulate the form of the past two seasons. Hopefully this contract doesn't create complacency.

Very interseting timing, on the eve of our european campaign. Makes me wonder if he was told to sign by today or leave. If he played for us in europe and we then tried to sell him it would surely have affected his price or reduced the number of teams interested in him, (only Chelsea or Real M. could probably have afforded him anyway), because of his ineligibility in european competition.
I'm still not 100% happy with the guy and I still thinks he owes the club and fans an awful lot for sticking by him through the drugs ban but I'm willing to give him the benefit of doubt on this one and hope he repays us all with some excellent performances on the pitch.
All the vast majority of fans wanted was for him to sign or go, he's made his decision now so time to get on with what really matters: the football.

Hoooray!
Now that is one huge issue out of the way this off season. But i think we all surely must have that feeling that something big is gonna happen. With regards to a big transfer, I think it could be something none of us will be expecting.
remember, non-plc means generally a lot more privacy. Where any of us expecting VdS?.....i sure as hell wasn't

Great now it's time to get on the pitch and get back to being one of the top 3 defenders in the world.

That was my first thought as well DS, but.....from everything i've read he's agreed to basically the same deal as was offered before Phil left.
Maybe there is some seceret clause that states he would only sign provided SAF dumped some of his squaddies....lol....

No, but I think it might have had something to do with the lack of signings. Hypothesis: A CM is needed, primarily for grooming purposes, but for depth as well. Now, let's say if Rio didn't sign, say by the end of the week, would SAF have moved him on this summer? That's a maybe, imo. That would make a new defender the overriding priority. It's entirely possible that SAF was trying to sort out Rio before deciding where to spend.
