THIS IS IT! We have all been waiting anxiously for the season to get under way. Many questions remain unanswered: How will Arsenal do without PV4? Did AW do enough in the transfer market? Will the young ones continue to blossom? Do the veterans still have the burning desire to dominate like in year's past?

If you say this club is boring, you need to wake up and smell what your shoveling? Hang on to your hats because the Toon Army is coming to North London.....GAME ON!

I predict a 2-1 Gunners win. Freddie will get a goal late in the 2nd half to grab all 3 pts. If NUFC land Owen, then it will be a much closer match. The NUFC goal that I predict is only there instead of 2-0 because that ONE goal will wake up The Arsenal fuel their competitive fire.

"Good,
good,
good to be,
good to be a GOONER!"

They're up before the final whistle when the ref adds extra stoppage time...

1-nil to the Arsenal on this one.

OUCH....lol. Ah, if you check the time of my post starting this thread, it is more than 4 hours after the FT whistle. I only started putting them up very quickly when a few people complained after letting 1 DAY elapse after a match.

Newcastle are shaky in the back and up top so we had better be able to take them down in Highbury. I say 3-1 to Arsenal. Our defense isn't ready to shutout too many teams but their defense won't hold up to sustained pressure.

My pick for the lineup (assuming Sol still "injured")
--------Henry---------JAR-----------
Hleb--Cesc----Gilberto--Ljungberg
Cole---Senderos---Toure----Lauren
--------------Jens---------------
Bench:Howard/Almunia/Viera?, Cygan, Flamini, Pires, RVP

I can see it being a 4-1 game, Arsenals offense is lookin sharp, chelsea was lucky to only concede one goal, and Newcastle has cruddy defense and are in panic mode because they know they will get relegated this term.

Only shearer will score against us, and only because hes a beast and senderos is lackin in confidence after the shield.

Henry will score a signature double
Ljungberg will tally because hes a god
and then Hleb will show the premiership how manly he is

Looking forward to players showin' their worth. It would be a boost to have a couple of signings in the bag before kick-off :D

I've watched a couple of the Barcodes' Intertoto Cup games and they were complete rubbish. They've got one (elderly) striker, a shaky defence and not much in the way of creativity or penetration from the midfield.

Arsenal 5, Barcodes 0.

Well obviously I'm still in preseason mode...I forgot that JAR is banned because of that stupid sending off in the FA Cup final.

With that in mind, here is the lineup I'd like to see:
--------Henry-------RVP--------
Hleb--Cesc----Gilberto--Ljungberg
Cole---Senderos---Toure----Lauren
--------------Jens---------------
Bench:Howard/Almunia/Viera?, Cygan, Flamini, Pires, Bergkamp

RVP didn't look ready but then he still managed to look closer to being ready than Bergkamp did. With that bench, I'm really hoping we put this game away early. Bergkamp and Pires looked old yesterday and not ready for the season, Flamini is fine for shutting the game down but offers little going forward, Cygan is suitable for Nancy not Arsenal, and god help us if we are forced to bring in whichever subpar/prospect GK we have on the bench. Oh well, surely it'll get better when Sol, JAR, and "Mystery signing Plan C" are available.

Lauren--------------Toure-------------Senderos-------------Cole

Hleb---------Gilberto---------------Fabregas---------Ljungberg

Bergkamp---------------Henry

If Hleb is going to start I'd prefer him to start on the right because Ljungberg plays much better on the left in my opinion and Hleb looked quite useful when he moved to the right against Chelsea. This would allow us to continue playing our usual style. Pires isn't looking sharp yet, who knows he may be better on Sunday, but he should be left out and Hleb should be given his chance as he has impressed all through pre-season and against Chelsea.

5-1 Arsenal. I think if we go out with belief, and desire we can destroy Newcastle and make Chelsea go out and reset the marker before the game in two weeks. The crowd will be making some noise since it's the last season at Highbury and Newcastle haven't improved their already flat squad.

I've got the feeling that Ljungberg (3), Henry, and Cole will get on the scoresheet for the boys in redcurrant.

C'mon the Arsenal!!!

Some people seem nervous about this fixture....why? We are crap, we know we are crap. We have no defence and no attack. We'll end up play 7 across the middle since all we buy is midfielders.

4-1 to the Gooners :(

I like the line-up and the optimism, PBM. Hleb has to be in the first XI after yesterday. His energy and skill jumped off the pitch and there's no doubt Cesc and Gilberto changed the game. We played some beautiful football in the second half.

A quick note about our old players looking "old". I can imagine that it's tough when you are in your 30's (speaking as one of the fold) to forget that you are playing a meaningless friendly. Perhaps we should give Dennis and Bobby the benefit of the doubt, afterall Titi didn't look too interested at times, and I believe he has proven himself to be beyond skepticism.

3-1 to the Arsenal. The captain with a brace and Freddie finishes the day. I'd love to see a clean sheet, but after yesterday, that is the one area I still have suspicions about.

well, apparently we're trying to take 1 off your hands ;)

Actually seeing as we have about 6 attacking mids and wingbacks as full backs, it could get a bit crowded in the middle of the pitch!

Defeating the present Newcastle isn't that hard, especially since Newcastle has a record of having poor starts in the seasons. My #1 concern right now is Senderous, cause he loooked extremely lost and rusty in the com shield match, and we might be needing him in the rematch in two weeks time. Hleb has not impressed me much too in that match, so I am going to be interested in his next match. I predict a 4-1 victory to the gunners......

You can have him..for the right price ofcourse ;)

It could be a good ol' midfield battle or masacare depending on which team you support.

These are the times that I miss old Mel B. - it's always fun to watch him get excited about this one.
