9. Cuba
10.Canada

13.Martinique
14. St Lucia
15.Barbados
16.St Kitts/Nevis

This is based on history as well as current form, the top 6 when in form will beat all the other teams on a consistent basis. El Salvador and Guatemala while putting up a good fight are whipped by all the top 6 teams. Cuba is now proving to be a force, eliminating TT in the Gold cup qualifiers, but against an organized squad they will be humbled.e.g 5-0 USA. Canada is just plain lucky, they will hurt you on a break, but in the long run they are not yet ready to compete. A lucky gold cup trophy, did nothing to their last WC run.
Haiti is a sleeping underrated team.a little money in their program and they can hurt people.
Martinique plucky but not there yet, also they cannot compete in the WC. The rest of Caribbean teams are easily beaten but if you make a mistake they will punish you....ask Costa rica when Bdos beat them in WCQ.

This is my top ten:

1. United States
2. Costa Rica
3. Mexico
4. Canada
5. Guatemala
6. El Salvador
7. Jamaica
8. Honduras
9. Panama
10. Cuba

United States is no doubt the best. The most consistent, the quarterfinalists, and the Gold Cup Champions. Before the Gold Cup began, I had Mexico in the number two spot because Costa Rica was playing poorly. Mexico was doing great under Aguirre, but Ricardo Lavolpe“s Mexico is not good enough and Costa Rica has suprisingly improved under Sampson. Canada is a very strong team who is not consistent, but can play well. Guatemala is always that strong team who gives all it can. I would have had El Salvador lower, but this youth team they now use is giving hope to the El Salvadorian people. Jamaica is not at its best and I don“t think will do too well during the qualifying (could be wrong though). Honduras is getting worse and worse every month after throwing out the 2001 coach. And Cuba and Panama are used to fill spots.

I would answer this question somewhat differently. Rather than ranking the teams individually I would prefer to rank them through tiers. Apart from my own personal views of the quality of the teams that I have seen play, here are some further reasons for the different tiers:

1. The top tier is features the best & most consistent teams in the region, US, Costa Rica & Mexico. These teams are all capable of destroying the minnows of the region & have consistently proved that. Plus they are rarely defeated by the teams in tier three & tier two. I'm not sure that Costa Rica has quite the same depth as the other two in the top tier, but since they always seem to be able to get access to most or all of their best players it doesn't seem to matter much (as a Canadian I have to envy that since Canada hasn't fielded a team close to their top squad in a competive match since 2001).

2.The 2nd tier I would include Canada, Honduras & probably Jamaica. My reasoning here is that these teams are capable of competing against the top tier & getting results against them (not suggesting that they usually do so). but don't have the same depth or consistent quality as those teams. As such, they have also proven capable of losing to teams in the lower tier if they have an off-day or field a 2nd or 3rd string team (witness recent losses by Canada & Jamaica to Cuba, and IIRC Honduras to Panama & Guatemala). I say "probably" Jamaica because they did recently lose 5-0 to Mexico, but I thought I'd give them a break since it was at Azteca & I doubt they had sufficient time to acclimatize to the altitude properly since they had been previously been in Miami.

3.The 3rd tier I put those teams that rarely seem to trouble the top tier in recent times but can be a handful for the 2nd tier. El Salvador (despite their recent friendly win over Mexico), Guatemala, Cuba (improved somewhat offensively to reach this group but still seem very poor defensively, notwithstanding Canadian strikers managing to miss a boat-load of chances against them in the Gold Cup), T&T, Panama, Haiti, Martinique.

4. 4th tier - a sliding scale for the rest of the teams in Concacaf. I hope I haven't left anybody out in the previous tiers, if so I apologize.

My Concacaf Rankings

Tier 1

1. USA-Can handle Mexico on neutral and home field, while Mexico still tends to play signifigantly better at home against USA.

2. Mexico-Just a notch below USA whenever it isn't at home.

3. Costa Rica-Seems to be easily the third best team but doesn't always play like it.

Tier 2

4. Honduras-Looked like the second best team in Concacaf for much of qualifying in 2001 but has fallen off a bit.

5. Jamaica-Still a tough team to handle at Jamaica. Made the World Cup in '98 and got a result, but is falling off quite a bit lately. Hasn't looked good against the USA in two years.

6. Trinidad and Tobago-Deeply inconsistent performances, produces some talented players, but lacks depth and is the weakest sister of tier 2.

Tier 3

7. Guatemala-A solid team at home, but pretty awful on the road. Stil, could beat many of the teams in tier one and tier 2 on a good day at home, and with home cooking.

8. Canada-Has that '01 Gold Cup, and past glories, but now looks like a disorganized side, prone to catastrophic lapses, and unlike Guat, really has no advantage of note at home, at least comparably speaking.

9. El Salvador-Not bad, but still a not below the second tier contendors. Won't get embarrased consistently by the best of the best, but not that terribly good either.

Tier 4

10. Cuba-Has looked impressive in spots in early '02 and briefly during this Gold Cup.

11. Barbados-Looked decent, even impressive at home in beasting Costa Rica a few years back in qualifying but has done little of note since that I can remember.

12. Haiti-The last team that I can think of that puts in decent performances from time to time (maybe Panama fits that label too).

Captain Canuck and I have difft definitions of 'troubling the opposition'. Playing bunker ball for a 0-0 tie indicates to me that the team has no hope of getting a win. Based on the recent performances of Canada, I would have to rank them outside the top 6. Without a coaching change, the team will continue to be no trouble for the class teams in CONCACAF.

1. USA - overtaken Mexico
2. Mex - only ranked 2nd due to the fact they play at home at Azteca.
3. CR

4. Honduras
5. Jamaica
6. El Salvador

7. Guatemala
8. Cuba

9. Trinidad & Tobago
10. Canada (and dropping like a stone).

Canada should be in spot 5 or 6, but will never challenge with Holger Osieck in charge. The Gold Cup is not to be confused with home & away WCQ.

Well, there aren't many options to rank, are they? Anyway I'll give it a try:

01. Mexico
02. USA

05. Canada
06. Jamaica
07. Trinidad & Tobago
08. El Salvador

YO JAMAICA IS FAR BETTER THAN HONDURAS. WHY SHOULD WE BE RANKED 5TH? LOOK AT MY STATS FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS BETWEEN THE TWO TEAMS.

98 WORLD CUP
JAMAICA QUALIFIED. HONDURAS DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT TO THE LAST SIX IN THE CONCACAF QUALIFIERS.

01 GOLD CUP

HONDURAS 2-0 J A

02 QUALIFIERS WC
HONDURAS 1-3 JA
1-1
1-0

03 GOLD CUP

JAMAICA REACHED Q-FINALS HONDURAS DID NOT. THEY DIDN'T EVEN WIN A GAME.

SUMMARY

JAMAICA HAS MADE MORE PROGRESS THAN HONDURAS IN THE LAST 5 YEARS AND HAS A SPOT IN THE 98'WC TO SHOW FOR IT. THEY ALSO WON A MATCH AT THE 98'WC, AND THEY HAVE EVEN REACHED MORE SEMI-FINALS IN THE GOLD CUP COMPETITION THAN HONDURAS. I SAY PUT J.A. 1 PLACE UP.

I dont understand why everyone seems to have Mexico as their number 1 team... I mean the US has only dominated them head to head in the last 7 or so meetings.

1) US
2) Mexico
3) Costa Rica
4) Honduras
5) Jamaica
6) Guatamala
7) El Salvador
8) Canada
9) Trinidad and Tobago
10) Cuba

I challange anyone who ranks El Salvador, Cuba and Guatemala above Trinidad and Tobago... T&T is a class side, the only thing keeping them from making it to the world cup is politics (if Jack Warner Fifa VP could keep his hands off our team we'd be fine, we change coaches every year and a half,) We are easily in the top six, (we got to the final round of qualifying... for WC but spluttered there, Latapy and Yorke quit in the middle of things and muddled up everything...) but we can and have beat Jamaica and we are certainly the best team in the caribbean, Jamaica only wins home games because because "The Office" as their stadium is called is the bumpiest football pitch on earth... Mexico wins most home games due to altitude, but if played on neutral ground, i would take T&T over everyone but Honduras and USA (we are capable of beating them, but they are better than us) Honduras have us stymied i cant figure how they do it but the crush us..
