Not yet, and I don't know if he will be...http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=338203&cc=5901.
Now that I am starting to think about this whole Essien saga, I wonder if Essien is going to develop into the player that so many people are expecting him to. If Essien does not move to Chelsea (And which I personally think he won't, not in the next two days at least), I think that Houllier will have him playing for the Reserves. If so, I just can't see Essien getting any better. With that in mind, I think that it is crucial for Michael to get some major playing time against good competition at his developing age as a footballer. Therefore, if Essien does not make the move to Chelsea in the next few days, it makes me wonder whether he will end up at Chelsea in a season or two. This is strictly my opinion. Let me know what all of you think.

I agree. Let's just have Abromavich's thugs force him into giving Essien to us on a free transfer, on threats of breaking his legs. :O

Blues close in on Essien deal (http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.asp?hlid=297319&cpid=8&CLID=&lid=2&title=Blues+close+in+on+Essien&channel=football_home)
Hopefully it will all be over come Monday.

Just going back to the Tiago situation, I would prefer to Tiago, (who doesn't seem to mind too much if he's not being played, at least from the aspect of any public promouncements), rather than bring in some fella who sounds a bit... well, erratic, shall we say. He's maybe a better player but what's gonna happen to the dressing room?

I completely agree. If the deal includes Tiago, I want nothing to do with it.

Tiago hasn't been amazing, but, after spending a year settling the lad in, why release him now? bad business, wouldn't make sense at all.....
the saga continues....boor-ring!
Chelsea are preparing a £10m move for Roma's Antonio Cassano according to reports in the Daily Star...? Surely an £11m bid for Owen would make more sense?

re: cassano, even if we did want him what exactly is the situation with roma's transfer ban.i heard it was a year without being able to bring players in but can they still sell or what's the story???

lets just say that essien becomes a blue - who is our starting midfield/front
after he settles in ? I cringe watching Jcole sitting so deep on the bench :(

I still dont understand why you guys want essien so much. Lampard and maka will start just abiout every single game they are fit for with cole/tiago/gudjohnsen/jarosik/diarra competing for the other central midfield position. You may settle for close to 30m for a player who will start less than 25% of your games this season should you rest makalele and lampard often. Cole wont get any wingplay with swp here, and gud is now 3rd choice striker, so that midfield position means alot more to him now.
Id understand this move if you were paying, 10 or even 15m for him, but 20-30m? Lyon are definately ripping you guys a new one.
JM does what is good for the team by having so many players to choose from, but it seems pretty unfair to the players who probably want and deserve more playing time, rather than just been a decent backup to chelsea. Especially in a world cup year where many players are going to want more time on the field, theyre going to find theyre nothing more than bench material - if theyre lucky.

Exactly why we haven't paid thus far.

He only wants players who're committed to the cause. Jose let Parker, Forssell, Smertin, and Kezman go b/c they wanted regular 1st team football. The guys that are staying know what they're in for. It's not that difficult, really.
Regarding Joe Cole: at the beginning of last season, he was behind Parker, Smertin, and Tiago in the midfield. Yet he still ended up starting for England.
We'll play 70 matches this season. Guys like Duff, Robben, and Drogba will all miss a ton of matches with injuries. Cole is guaranteed to start 25-30 matches.

Still mixed emotions on a deal, I rate Essien very very high, and he will be very very useful if Mak or Lamp were to actually have to miss an importent match, especialy Lamp.
But I think he will quickly claim that 3rd mf spot and then where will Gud and Cole J. fit in, especially Gud.
For about 80-90% of our matchs we can trade off superior Gud and Coles attacking skills at the 3rd mf for their defense, though Cole has started to become a near little taz devil on D when at the 3rd mf spot.
Essien is much better defensivly with great pace and attacking skills as well and will be really valuable for Europe and against the top 2-3 in the league or if Lamp or Mak get injured but the crux is he will be too good to leave out most matchs.
Gotta love how desperate he is to play in Blue as well but Aulas is such an effing prat and prick, hate to see him rewarded.

'"Kenyon was here and progress has been made," said Aulas. "Although nothing has been finalised yet, I want to sort this out this weekend, once and for all. "I anticipate further meetings over the weekend and perhaps Roman Abramovich will be involved as well."
Ooooh... Maybe Roman Abramovich will be involved as well. Sounds like a fan of the big man, eh guys? Maybe we should throw in a signed tee-shirt of RA's to clinch the deal... LOL.
What a prize d!ckhead, eh!... and we thought Kenyon was embarrassing sometimes.

'Chelsea look to have missed out on signing Lyon midfielder Michael Essien after the French club said they were "closing the door" on negotiations.'
It's not fair to call this a soap opera any more. I think we've moved beyond soap opera and into a whole new category.
