Bayern Munich 3 - Borussia Mönchengladbach 0
Great game overall.
Martin Demichelis was by far the best player today. Roque Santa Cruz and Valerien Ismael put on a shamefull performance while Roy Makaay, Owen Hargreaves, Jens Jeremies, and Ali Karimi put on an excellent performance.
Ten-man Munich battle to stirring victory (http://www.fcbayern.t-com.de/en/news/matchreport/2005/05041.php?fcb_sid=c2e174b20ad194f23d7571bfc232fcfc)
An Owen Hargreaves strike and a late Roy Makaay brace sealed the points in a hard-fought opener as red-carded Valerien Ismael suffered a miserable debut.

I'm pumped about Jeremies' assist.
I will say a few things
Bayern as a whole played very agressively..going after every ball. Ishmael, was rather unlucky with the second yellow. Doesn't seem like he deserved it. He and Lucio are going to take some time on working together. No real worries there. Lucio got forward and was a thrreat in the box.
Sagnol was very agressive going down the wings and probably had more crosses than Deisler.
Jeremies...kudos to him for putting in some good minutes. Hargreaves as well. Hargreaves had a good game, but as in previous years, needs to do this week in and out. He and Brazzo are still our best utility players.
Santa Cruz gets a lot of crap from me...if you have been on these boards long you will know this. Again...can't finish. However, having said that, I am willing to give the guy a chance as he has not really played in two seasons. I'm sure that was one of the reasons he got the start today.
It is obvious that Ballack and Deisler and not up to par yet.
Ali Karimi had a good start...could not ask for more. Decent passing and agressive with his body/headers. Look forward to more.
Team play? well...Gladbach is definitley not Bremen or Schalke, but it was good to see our agressiveness all over. Have to watch those yellow cards. I love Ballack for being vocal for his teammates, but he has to realize that it is not worth a stupid yellow card.

I think the red card didn't really let Bayern to completely take over the game.... well I was happy that Karimi did his defensive duties correctly (if I remember right ppl were very concerned about his defensive capabilities).... but I think in an 11 men match he can play better...
as for the rest of the team, I should say Makay is just amazing!!! I am waiting for the game to be available via torrent so can comment on how the other players did!

Watched it on Setanta.......Hargreaves' first goal was totally awsome, got a pass from Santa Cruz and curled it into the upper right-hand corner. Makaay was awsome as always. The defense looked very solid imo. Would of liked to see Ze Roberto but Karimi did a great job as well. IMO the man of the match was Hargreaves because he was everywehre on the field and he was extremely offensive even in the first half when he played left back and also played some great balls.

what's up with using Karimi so defensively... although I'm pleased with him doing a good job both on the ground and in air in defense.... but I think it's about time for him to have more attacking roles.... and far out SC missed so many chances it wasn't even funny... lucky his pass for the first goal deflected from the defender and found Owen otherwise this would have been one bad game for him!!....

what's up with using Karimi so defensively...Karimi was brought on to give M'Gladbach something to worry about when they moved up because of their man-advantage. With one man down, everyone on the Bayern team had to defend--bringin on Karimi was tactially smart, and he played his role very well. In case you do not know, Bayern is a defensively minded team. Score if you can, but keep the opposition from scoring at all--a strategy I agree with.

Good game, Man of the Match has to be Roy Makaay. He was invisible for 80min but then he just makes two goals and almost a 3rd, thats all that matters for a striker. I don't think Santa Cruz made a very good game, it was ok but IMO not as good as the media says, his first half performance was awful. He was slow, often lost the ball, made bad passes, couldn't finish and his assist was very lucky, because a) it was deflected b) he didn't see Hargreaves and should have made more out of that situation than just pass the ball away.
The second half was better, Roque hat bad luck when his shot hit the post, but that's the difference between a Makaay and a Santa Cruz.
Hargreaves and Lucio were great as well, especially Lucio's offensive effort.
Karimi was ok, but he was lucky that the ref didn't see his foul against Jansen, that could have been a penalty.
Overall I am very pleased with the game. Most of the time Bayern didn't give 100% because they didn't have to, but parts of the 2nd half were close to perfect. They almost won every 1 on 1 situation and ran a lot, they seem to be in a great shape.

I only got to see the last 30 minutes or so of the game but I really liked Owen in the game. Karimi looked good but I thought he had a pretty blatant foul in the box against an opposing player, looking forward to good things though.
