Good stuff from the boss
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=338073&cc=5901
some highlights ...
"What do you want me to do, go to the casino with the money?"
"I am not envious of Chelsea. There is a way to be successful and beat Chelsea despite the fact that they have more money than anybody else."
"... I have worked very hard on the youth policy and I must find a player who is better than Cesc Fabregas, Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto Silva to replace Patrick.
"At the moment, I have not found one. I don't want to buy a player for the sake of buying a player."

Interestingly, what he also points out is that Chelsea inflates the transfer market by paying what he thinks is more than what the player is really worth using SWP as an example. I like the following quote from the Skysports article:
"But everyone knows that they (Chelsea) have plenty of money and, when they come in, they will buy for £20 million what [otherwise] costs £10 million.
"Do you really think Wright-Phillips would have cost £21 million had Chelsea not come in for him? Frankly, we have to be honest. What would be his price?Boy, doesn't that sound a lot like what some have said on this board?!

Who asked him if he was envious? Jealous whinning Wenger.
Who told him to sell Vieira if he can't replace him? Ain't that some sh!t?
He won't beat no Chelsea. He should forget that. Then he talks about Owen being benched at Arsenal. Interesting. like he plays 4-3-3.
The true reason both Arsenal and Manchester are not signing Owen is M - O - N - E - Y.

Crap! Owen is only 10-12 M, but Real will not sell at a "would be 10M" kind of deal. (Hleb). Owen's salary is another stumbling block.
City would never sell SWP for 10 M. Wenger is lying and disrespecting SWP because he didn't get him.

don't you have some oncoming traffic to walk through?
As much as it might be disappointing to not get a player of Vieira's talent this transfer period, I agree with AW that there is no need to buy just for the sake of buying. Wenger knows what he is doing - his accomplishments are well documented. Let's start the season and see how it plays out. If we aren't winning and out of the top 3 in December, I might begin to worry.
mad theory

exactly, some times i get sick of some of the posters here.
they pretty much think our seasons determined in the transfer off-season...
why invest and buy all those youth players in the past if we aren't ever going to use them. the likes of flamini and fabregas were bought for times like this when our experienced players eventually retire or move on.

uh... dunno... could it be, hmmm... the JOURNALIST? you know, the bloke who wrote the story quoted? it's not like he held a press conference to tell the world he wasn't envious.

good first post.
cheers.
i think it's pretty ridiculous most of the time what the media get out of snippets the managers feed them. half the time it feels like they're baited - then jumped upon. if you ask a question looking for a certain kind of answer, you'll probably get it.
though mr. special usually does have some fantastical things to say about himself.

from one of them articles above..
-I like Owen but I am looking for more for a deeper kind of striker as Dennis Bergkamp is getting older, while Thierry is not yet at the age to play deeper.
i thought that quote was interesting.. who would fit this description right now?

That is a damn lie because Henry is not a center forward.

He has a lot of explaining after selling Vieira.
