Compared to other teams that is....

Kaka does not have a free role, as He and Ancellotti (while in an interview with some newcast,) Said that he does not have a free role, and he has to get back and mark.
Just to clear that up.

but do we...?

We have a good depth... Keane, Scholes, Ronaldo (technically I think he COULD play if stretched to the limit...), Rooney, Smith, O'Shea, Miller, Kleberson, Fortune, Fletcher, Park... See we have great depth.

It's just not quality depth.

(sorry.. kind of pointless had to say something :o )

Unless the decision has been made to sit either Scholes or Keane, I don't see how we can buy a quality CM. For the long-term benefit, I'm not in favor of benching Fletch. He will be a first-teamer for a long time and its always better to be able to solve at least half you needs from within instead of having to purchase.

I think compared to many other teams we have good depth. It could be better - but no panic buys... we will survive on what we've got and must not waste money on someone who has no chance of displacing Keane/Scholes now, or replacing them in the future. A player like Ballack would be a good addition and would give us some quality depth, moving Fletcher to a rotational role, but I don't think we are in dire need of someone THIS season. Next season for sure, so its a wise idea to get someone now, just don't pay Gerrard money for a Michael Carrick.

And don't pay Essien money for Essien.

We dont have enough depth IMO. or enough quality on the bench to runs this long martathon we call an EPL season. Be honest, dont be overly optimistic. Ohsea at centermidfield?? Thats desperation. He looks better at leftback.

its funny... last season, depth in CM was not a problem... and the one player EVERYONE was clammering for to be sold has been sold, now all of a sudden we don't have depth in CM... this despite moving Smith to CM... I'm not saying we've got the world's best CM, but we've got quality in Keane, Scholes and Fletch... potential in Smith and Kleberson and we don't need more depth... HOWEVER, it would be great to add someone who could trump any of the top 3, prefferably Keane who is next to leave.

Johno, be for real. It would have been ok if we had won the title, or even werent that far away from Chelsea, but we were what, 11 12 points away. Im not for all those excuses. We need another midfielder. I dont think Keane and Scholes can do it by themselves. Like Teso, pointed out, look at other teams options. We dont have a vogel on the bench, or we dont have a guti, or iniesta on the bench. We have John Oshea and Quinton Fortune, and Liam Miller.

i would hate to think what would happen in case of injury.

*knock on wood*

Are you kidding. We all know Kleberson is not staying. If he is, good then, but we only have 2 reserves for 3 midfield spots?? Is that ok to you?

We must have been pretty desparate this past season.

If we continue the 433 then we will need another backup. Well if two get injuried out of Scholes, Keano, and Fletcher then we can sub with Kleb and Richardson, sufficiently I believe. Additionally, Rooney COULD drop back into midfield if need be. Basically we have decent enough depth to fend with mid-to-lower table teams IF our players try hard unlike last season..

We dont need anymore backups in the middle. Like Johno said we have the potential of Smith to shine in place of Keano and Kleb hasnt been the best in past seasons, I admit, but many of you have preached on wanting a chance for him to prove himself. This could be that chance.
And my main question is how have you people forgotten about all the talent we have in ROONEY and RONALDO? Both of these players could easily play in midfield. They are both in the shape of their lives and are brilliant footballers. They both have buddo passing skill and full range shooting. Am I wrong or am I right. And what about giggs, even if the guy is on the skids (according to some of you) all the reports say that he is in brilliant shape and has been showing signs of the same old brilliant play. All three of these players are potential backups for midfield especially if we continue to play a 4-4-2
And even if some of you are going to say what about up top. Up top, are you kidding me? We still have ruud and many of you have been preaching to me about how many damn strikers we have and we dont need to sell Saha for Owen, and blah, blah, blah. The fact of the matter is that we have plenty of players for up top. And I completely forgot about Ole. Dont get me started on his passing brilliance, although he might not be able to play midfield until he is in peak shape, but you know he is an incredibly smart player who can play any position.
The point that I am trying to make is that we have plenty of backup for midfield. All you have to do is open your eyes and look around you at the talent we have.

So wait,.... Ronaldo and Rooney can fill in for Keane? Thats what im worried about. Just to remind you, most of the time, Fergie plays a 4-3-3 so im guessing unless he is desperate, 4-4-2 is out the option.

We could play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, it doesnt matter. And no I didnt say anything about CRon or Rooney taking over for Keane! Have we not conversated about Smith for Keane for the past 5 bazzillion years?!?!? And its not desperation when you have the kind of talent that we do, and I completely forgot about Park. I mean come on, do you still think that we are desperate to fill in midfield? We haven't even come to the bridge of our starters OR backups getting hurt or anything. Both the depth and the talent are there...

So you have a nice day and dont be such a doubter....  ;)

Just forgot to add, you cant stick two attack minded midfielders in the center and expect to be successful.

Look ... at the end of this year we will have a major issue in the middle. We will have to add quality, period. If that person becomes available now and we have the funds to do it, we would be stupid not to.

I just hope we don't have injuries in the middle ... I really don't want to be discussing here how this season slipped away like the last couple of seasons and cite injury problems as the cause.
