....god, I can't believe I wrote that rubbish!

Of course I blame the board, but "give Souness more time"!!! I should be taken out into a forest and shot for that remark!

I know many Newcastle fans that would do it also. :(

Let us hope the rumors about a local ownership group buying the club from the FatMan and Hall Jr. turn out to be true.

Because the FatMan is just as much to blame for this summer's player debacle as is Souness.

I agree with Toon_Toon...

they should all be sacked.

Oh, and I think the odds on Souey getting the sack first should be raised to even money.

What's the word among the fans on this one.

Personally I've always thought that Sounness was a bit of a dipstick. I remember hearing that he tried to crock one of his own players in training once. He seemed to be under the impression it was going to 'toughen them up', or something.

Mind you, the fat guy and the other fella seem to make a habit of sacking their managers a couple of weeks into a season so, frankly, NO decent manager's going to go there when they think they're gonna get treated like that. I still haven't forgiven them for the way they treated Sir Bobby... and it's not as if they've done any better since, have they?

Appointing Souness - bad mistake
Sacking Souness - worst mistake

Emre gets healthy, Luque settles in, Owen signs and we still are not competive the subject will have to be broached. But we are to committed to Souness (he released a third of the squard and signed a whole new midfield and strike force) to give up on him now.
Also as father always said don't give up on what you got until you know that what will replace it will be better.

Depends. If we got a manager lined up, maybe not. If Owen doesn't sign, we're sunk and need new blood in the gaffer spot, ASAP!

After last weekend the odds have increased significantly, not only did the side only get a point against a bottom feeder at home, but another player, whose fitness was in question, was rushed into service only to incur a long term injury. With Parker's assume absence next weekend, and the rest of the starting midfield nursing hamstring injuries, it does not look encouraging this weekend either.

I still believe that while the chairman’s second biggest mistake was to hire Souness, committing his first biggest, sacking Souness is inevitable. The reason hiring Souness was a mistake should be self evident. The reason sacking him is a mistake is that the side we have now is the side he wanted if he is replaced the new manager will want his players and so the merry-go-round goes.

The sacking seems to be inevitable because the light at the end of the tunnel is so far away. If everyone was healthy Owen could be paired up with Luque, or Owen could be the single striker. Either way Emre, Parker, Nobby, and Dyer or Bowyer would make up the midfield.

However, from what I am reading in the internet evening chronicle and other football news websites it looks like the chairman will loose patience before the full team returns.

Shepherd gives Newcastle manager Souness rollicking
tribalfootball.com - September 13, 2005

Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has delivered a rollicking to manager Graeme Souness after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Souness responded by cancelling his troops' day off on Sunday.

The management, coaching staff and players attempted to thrash out what went wrong against Fulham, who could easily have won for the second time in successive seasons at St James' Park.

Newcastle have spent £50million in the past 10 months but currently lie second-from-bottom in the Premiership with two points from five games.

To make matters worse, new £16m superstar Michael Owen failed to impress in his debut on Saturday.

And the England hitman blasted his team-mates after the game for a lack of service.

Shepherd made no comment yesterday but his face told the whole story when he left the directors' box on Saturday evening.

Souey would not have been sympathetically received by Shepherd and deputy Douglas Hall on his post-match visit to the directors' room.

and so it begins...........

I think Souey should get until the first of the year. At this point, I don't think top six is a concern, but relegation should be.

If the club is still in the relegation zone at Boxing Day, sack the sod. If not, let him finish the season and make a decision then.

Unless there is a significant turnaround by the end of the month, the season is already lost.

While I understand the sentiment, after splashing around 50 M pounds, I don't think NUFC's board will settle for middle of the table, and they might be less patient than you at the middle of the season.

i do not think souey should be manager but the start of the season was tough. Arsenal and Man U in the first 3 weeks. the Fulham loss was bad, but we got a point. with international play and injurys its been tough. Souey should go with shep. but not now. What we need is a few wins and maybe some draws to get back in it. The defence really needs a shake up because they look like idiots running around. They look like the U14 players i coach.

...that would be a scary thought, he would be a great option, but unless his wife gets better, or the option that would just be a dream.

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through- General Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett.

Describes the Newcastle board to a tee.

He'll drop Shearer for that game and will get fired the next day...

Might be time to bump back up the old "Who replaces Robson" threads from last year...
