OK, Phil Neville has just been sold to Everton and United are said to be considering offers for Kleberson as well.

We are linked with Owen and Ballack, and then there's Essien...

...and I haven't even brought up Mikel yet.

This thread is for news and rumours regarding players coming and going. If you want to discuss particular players and their effect on our squad, please start a new thread or bring up your idea in an existing related thread. Thank you....

I hope we don't sell Kleberson, he should get a chance to shine this year... anyone got an update on Mikel? From what I've seen of him in the WYC, he could come in and start in our 433. He's got more presence than Fletcher and although he's gifted going forward he never over commits... also a nifty passer. Although I don't like the off the field crap, anyone who's seen Mikel play only has good things to say about him.

http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/sport/football/manchesterunited/s/168/168367_owen_isnt_right_man.html

At roughly the same time as Baptista and Robinho are checking into the Madrid Hilton, Manchester United's chief executive David Gill revealed that the Glazers were more than happy to stump up financial funds to enable Sir Alex Ferguson to make one more major signing before hostilities resume.
Aha! There we had it. The last piece in the jigsaw. The former Anfield wonderkid was heading for Old Trafford. No doubts. No speculation. It was a cast-iron certainty.

The only people who seemed unaware of Owen's destination were Fergie and the player himself.

Fergie is not the type to fix something that ain't broke. And his strike force isn't broken. It needs a good servicing, it's true, but it's not ready for the scrapyard. And it still has the potential to provide more goals than any other strike force in the top level.
But Sir Taggart won't let the Glazer transfer fund gather dust, you can be sure of that. In fact that cash will be burning a hole in his pocket as I write these words. Fergie always has been brilliant at spending someone else's money.

And if I was a gambling man, which of course I'm not, I would wager a bob or two that Ferguson will blow his entire transfer kitty to acquire the services of a world-class midfield player in readiness for the new season.

Ferguson says he will never be able to find another Roy Keane and he's probably right. But there is a player who reminds me and many other others of Keane in his pomp. A tireless box-to-box midfield performer. Tackling in his own penalty area one moment and scoring goals at the other end the next. He plays for Bayern Munich and Germany and his name is Michael Ballack.

Bayern say that they have no intention of parting company with their prize asset. How many times have we heard that before? My information is that any bid in excess of £10m could induce a sudden change of heart.

Thanx... that's great to hear... I also cant see Fergie NOT spending when the money's there to be spent and we have a need, not unless he really thinks Smith is the real deal, in which case I'll take one Andrade please.

Here's a thought, if Essien is as good as some people think he is, trade Saha and 15 million pounds for him. Then you still have 10 million for Andrade. I personally like Saha, but he is French and playing for Lyon might give him more opportunities to start for France next year. And then we still have 10 million pounds available for Andrade!

1. Lyon won't take that... they want more...
2. That leads to another problem... lack of depth up front... Ruud's the only true target we have and Saha could fill in for him... with Smith we have a guy who can win headers but doesn't score too often.
3. We should just up and buy Andrade... he and Rio would be a good enough pairing to let me play in defensive midfield if i wanted to.

When you add the number of players already sent out on loan plus the sale of Phil plus the money still available plus Gill's comments about one more man you come up with someone else coming to Ole Trafford this off season and their seems to be alot of taliking out of the Ballack camp and Bayern...

Michael Owen's chances of joining Manchester United have receded even further following the shock news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the brink of a first-team return. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=338064&cc=5901

There definitally needs to be more talk on the Andrade front. It's obvious that's what would be best IMO from the moves that Fergie has made moving Alan back to mid.

Isn't Andrade Euro-tied through the Inter-toto? I can't imagine Fergie moving for him under those circumstances, plus Depor know they need a CL season to get the funds to get their squad back on track.

Ballack is the must have IMO. I have high hopes that Kleberson will be shown the door right after Phil, leaving a nice big sport for Ballack to nestle into. Ballack would reinvent this side and give them some grit going forward that they simply seemed to be short of last season.

I certainly hope this move isn't a sign that SAF is counting on Alan Smith to heavily contribute in the holding mid role this season, as novel of an idea as it is I'm not particularly fond of experiments in the EPL.

No he is not. Another poster had a good explanation of why, but I can't find it at the moment. Suffice to say that since it is a qualifier for the UEFA cup it does not count toward the Champion's League.

As the previous poster said, no Inter-toto doesn't count.

I think anyone can be had for money, and he would be worth 12 or so M quid.
As I have said before, I think this player would be better buy than Ballack. He is a few years younger and would partner perfectly with Ricunt. As johno said, albiet jokingly but serious none the less I believe, that would losen up the CMs to be freer and not worry about defensive abilities AS MUCH with such a great pairing in the back.

Now considered that Ballack would still be a great addition although he is 30 now I believe. He won't last as long at United as a younger Andrade. Additionally, buying Ballack would either force us to play a 433 or force out Keano.

Either way I will be extremely happy, but I just prefer Jorge for some reason.

My only problem with your post is that your just too wordy for the point your trying to get across. Other than that, I agree .... :D

Michael Ballack is 28, and is going to turn 29 in hte course of the Season. You could play Scholes and keane and Ballack together, wont force out keane but Fletcher.

My point is quite simple. Look at our main rivals in the EPL/CL and look at the quality of their overall squad and particularly their bench. We lack that and Ballack is a step in the right direction.

Other than Chelsea, I don't see many rivals that can boast significantly more bench strength than United. That being said, I would love to see Ballack come to OT.
