I didnt say that it doesnt mean anything to them, but the truth is, how many players care about that now a dayz? They just want to play football, win, and get paid. You will find the occasional dedicated player, but in all honesty, you cant expect a player to play for a club hes not happy at. I think Essien thinks he has a better chance of winning something, with Chelsea. He also knows he will get paid more.
The truth is, Loyalty is overrated. Look at Micahel Owen, Alan smith, and Sol Campbell. They did what they THOUGHT was best for their career, not their club. Not many people live for the club they play for, they live for themselves, which isnt a bad attitude. ITs normal.
Dunno, but maybe I've got the wrong impression, but the majority of the players that have played for us in the past seemed to have a good love for the club.. Fergie's the one that shipped them out. Again could be wrong.
Leeds were in worse position than us IMHO, whats to say that he might not have been paid for his loyalty by staying?

Your right, he players did love the club in the past, but thats it, the key word of the day is...PAST. Things change, we cant be living in the past.

But thats the point. Manchester United is built upon its great history no? I'm just saying we as OT fans are used to getting OUR players, not biches like those guys, even if times have changed.

You can be built on history, but if you keep thinking about it, or bringing up history, your no better than Liverpool fans.
Im a fan, but i wouldnt be mad if Someone whose kissed the badge left. ITs life. Its football. You have to move on.

Your, right no need for name calling though :D.
Enough of this discussion anyways, we all know how each other feels about He Who Is Not Coming Here.

I may be the nieve one here and you may be completely correct in your assesment of the players we have at OT.
For one, I think I'll just stick to being nieve. Quite frankly, I really like the idea of believing that our history & traditions mean something to those that wear our colors. It makes following them a hell of a lot more fun. Football is my one real escape from the realities of everyday life ... I'm going to do my best to keep it that way.

In American team sports, money and individual glory has replaced team success as the goal of most professional athletes. While the tradition of a club may be a minor factor in deciding where to go, salary, bonuses, media exposure and endorsement opportunities count for more. Some players, near the end of their career, decide that they want the team success that has eluded them up to that point, but that's only human. Indeed most of us see the real value of something only when we're about to lose it forever.
I don't know what the team athlete culture is in Europe. However, all of these things that we discuss on this board (Obi, Essien, etc.) are eerily familiar to American sports fans, who are used to seeing players to whom team loyalty is meaningless.

I read, I think, that we are rumored to be in for Sagnol.. Doesn't particularly make sense to me as I believe he is a RB??????? But he is a good player at whichever side he plays at. Need clarification though.

i think we are after getting him on a free next year, probably to replace Gary (not sure if hes any younger though).

He's old though... I thought he was over 30... No reason to get him now... its fine to have 2 27yo rb's but no point in having 2 guys the same age and having to replace them both in short time.
EDIT: It appears he's only 27 so that's not so bad... good idea actually if he's gonna be cheap, cuz he's got experience and we did need some ample cover at RB especially if Brown is going to be Rio's partner.

That will work then. Actually I was hoping he was a left back so we could move Gabby into the center. I know some of you hate that, but I think it would work brilliant. Gabby is not afraid to get stuck in, a little too much sometimes and might make a mistake, for which Rio will be there to clean up.

Sagnol is a hell of a crosser of the ball so i would like to see him.

then the question becomes does SAF think Gary will be moving on soon? I mean... he could have gotten someone like 23-24 who could be groomed but getting Sangol will be like immediate cover someone who can step in. Gary's got 3 good years left and he's a fine player and a great professional... maybe SAF just wants Brown to concentrate on CB and not have to cover for Gary, who I have to admit has become a bit injury prone the last 2 seasons.

Gary Neville??? # more seasons? He is already getting skinned at times now, let alone 3 seasons from now.He is good, but not gonna last that long

ok people...lets forget about Michael Ballack or Mikael Essien. Jermaine Jenas of Newcastle has handed in a transfer request...don't you think United should be gaining interest? He is a definite upgrade from what we have right now and he's still relatively young. We need to be talking about Jenas.

Over-rated.

Over-rated or not, would it be fair to say the Jenas would be an upgrade over our CM's after Keane, Scholes and Fletch? In order to improve depth at CM, wouldn't Jenas be a good purchase? The question is price. While no one wants to pay £20MM for Jenas, most would probably sanction £5MM. At what price would Jenas be an appealing option?

I see where you are coming from but realistically theres no way in hell Essien or Ballack are coming. Jenas is the best available for what we need right now...

you must be off you bloody rocker... GNev is in the top 3 RB's in the prem every season w/ his eyes closed and he's been there for the better part of a decade which makes him one of the most consistent players in his era and probably the best RB in the world not named Cafu in the last 10 years or so.
