A sad day for me. Whilst never being the most talented I'll personally miss his commitment. A player who's versatility was probably one of his strengths and his biggest weakness too. A red through and through, good luck in the future, Phil, here's hoping you get more regular first team football.
mtkillamanjohno amongst others thought the departure of Jones on loan to Preston would make the signing of a new CM more likely. What are you guys thinking now?
Neville gone, Jones on loan, Fortune injured, suddenly things look even thinner in that position. Does this signal that a new signing is imminent or does it signal a new role for Smith as Fergie tried him out in this position on the pre-season tour?
My personal hunch, I'm afraid to say is that I doubt we'll be signing a CM this summer.

yeah great servent, always did a job for us wherever he played. hope Gary is ok with this move.. anyway, lets hope theres a good midfielder on his way as we arn't the strongest in midfielder now in terms of depth (if you compare with Chelsea) and if we let Kleberson go we will be even shorter.

Last year we lost Nicky, this year we lose Phil. Two very good players who would be starters in most other teams. Phil really stepped in last year and helped us out of many jams. Thanks for the many great years, Phil - and good luck with Everton. May you have the satisfaction of finishing 4th this season, one place ahead of Arsenal.

Yeah good luck Phil, it will be very weird seeing you in a Everton shirt on the opening day of the season!

*Imagine Phil in the leather-clad Terminator get-up complete with shades and a deep Austrian accent. Christiano Ronaldo as John Conner (T2) .
C R: Why must you leave now Phil?
P.N: I was sent from ze future to stop Patrick Vieira. Now that he has gone my mission is complete. Manzester no longer needs me. I must go to a club vhere I am needed.
C:R: Oh Phil *sobs We,,,I...will miss you :( where will you go?
P.N: Zu not vorry liddle wan. Zer N-03 model you commonly refer to as 'Gary' is still here. As for me.. A team called Everton need me to terminate R-10 - you commonly refer to zis model as Riquelme. I shall du my best to terminate heem.
*Phil walks into the sunset (jumps on the motorway to take his medical at Goodison)

:D
Phil's wage destroyed him in the end imo. He is not a 50k a week player and that is probably the main reason we got rid of him. He simply cannot justify such a wage sitting on the bench. He's a true Mancunian yes, but unlike Gary he really can't do much of anything and that (since Vieira has now gone) really reduced him and his chances here. Besides, it is a world cup year..he may well force himself into the 23 to Germany..and there is no doubt he will get his first full season of games in his career!! At Everton.
His heart(being in the club) is the only thing I shall miss about Phil. A brilliant servant however and that should always be remembered no matter how untalented a player he was.
All the best at Everton Phil! Hope you make a great effort of making the WC 23.

:D :D :D DS, not repworthy but almost!!
I also agree with the point about his wages, it was a mystery to me why they offered him such a long-term and lucrative deal last summer only for him to go on and have one of his most unproductive (even for him) seasons in terms of appearances.

I'm sad to see Phil go but it's a good move for him and a good move for Everton. I like that Phil was dependable, not only in committing stupid fouls in bad areas, but also in filling in a whatever role was required. I hope that there are no lingering effects in reducing our Nevilocity by half.

Ill tell you what hes going to do:
1. It doesnt matter who your brother plays for, when your playing that team you crush them
2. If gary come across phil on the pitch they will probably not even talk to each other until phil gets the ball and gets crushed. Thats when gary says in a Chris Tucker way: "YOU GOT KNOCKED THHHHEEEE F%&K OUT!!!!!!!"

While I have not discussed this matter with the Coach personally, I am sure that he will feel that 1 Neville could never be as "Nevillicious" as 2 Nevilles....... ;) :D

Good stuff DS... got to spread though.... one thing I'll say, sad to see another youth player and one who was completely devoted to the club leave, but glad he'll get PT and that his high wages are no longer on the books.

sad to see Phil go. He was a great servant to the club. First team football is where it is at and now he rides teh wave like Nicky did last season. I hope his first season in Everton is a lot more productive tahn what NB had at Newcastle.
So long, Phil. You know your brother is gonna go in hard on ya.
