I was speechless when I saw this headline (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=337901&cc=5901) at ESPN Soccernet.

Their headline of this subject last year was "Young Boys Wankdorf Erection Problem"...

Yeah, that would've gotten me fired from any of my headline-writing jobs.

Saying Boo-Yah!!!!! would get you fired from most sports anchor jobs. ;)

But this is ESPN, where sports mascots roam the halls.

BTW- What is the Young Boys Wankdorf's mascot?

It depends on the source of the story.

Some pieces come to them over the wires. They generally just pick up whatever AP (or PA in the UK) or Reuters has written.

Some of their stories are straight pickups from newspapers. I think I've seen some Telegraph copy under a Soccernet byline and a few others as well. I'd be willing to bet that the headline in question came from one of the tabs.

For the sake of clarification, am I correct in understanding that ESPN.com and Soccernet.com basically operate independent of each other editorial-wise, and Soccernet is a UK operation that uses ESPN for the infrastructure while ESPN uses Soccernet as a place to put US soccer coverage and a source for any newsworthy soccer news?

That is how I have always understood it.
