hey everyone just want your opinion..

Recently I had a game in the quater finals of my schools cup competition which is played by the schools throughout our city. In the first half i went into a tackle two footed but cleanly won the ball and didnt touch any of the player, the player then went down from the follow through, and i was given a straight red card. Fortunately we went on to win on penalties, but i was wondering if you think this was justified. I had no intenton of hurting the player i just went into the tackle strong to win the ball.

anyway let me know what you think..

i dont think you should have gotten a red for that but i have asked refs about that and they said that even if you dont hit the player its for safety reasons. two footed tackle can go bad even if you get the ball first.

I wouldn't advise it, plain and simple. Even if it was clean tackle, a lot of players take exception to it. If you do happen to catch the man and injure him, somebody may be looking to repay you later.

if you get ball, you get ball imo. shouldnt be a card.

I can hit someone with a car and go pick up there ball. Does this mean wut i did was legal??? just cuz u get ball doesnt mean it wasnt a foul. This is one of those situations where you need to see it to have a real judgement.

a two-footed tackle will always result in a red card; even if you do get the ball first because it could be very dangerous if you catch the player's leg.

I disagree with that statement most referees wont give a card for that just a warning unless there is a serious injury or denying an obvious goal scoring opurtunity.

You got shafted but you brought it on yourself. You miss you could hurt him you are not there for that.

You can not go for a tackle in a dangerous manner. Like you go for a tackle from behind the player and get those 2 feet between the players legs and happen to get the ball you can easily get booked.

I've never seen anyone get a red card in school games, except for when there's a fight or when the player's cursing at the ref...

But still, tackles are overrated anyway. If the guy goes down and the ref doesn't have a clear view (which is most of the time as for high school or lower division college games there are only 2 refs), he's gonna blow the whistle. If the guy doesn't go down, by the time you get up he's right there ready to take the ball back from you.
