10.10.02 - The finals of the Caribbean Zone qualifying for the 2003 Gold Cup has been postponed, the Caribbean Football Union today announced. and will be re-scheduled for the first half of 2003.
The postponement was due, in the main, to a multiplicity of factors over which the CFU has no control.
The 16-nation tournament was scheduled to be played in Trinidad and Tobago from 10 – 20 November, from which the qualifiers for the 2003 Gold Cup would emerge.
The Gold Cup finals will take place in the USA from 12 – 27 July 2003, in venues to be announced.

Pay a close look to the Dominican Republic National team. They are developing real well. They have 4 players in the different second division teams in Spain. In Costa Rica two are playing in first division and some others in El Salvador. Their goal keeper Oscar Perez is great. He might end up in the MLS some day. He is only 25. The Dominican Republic national team will be trained by a coach from Spain for the PanAmerican games to be celebrated next year in the city of Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic. There are currently 20 first division teams and 12 second division. They have a U23, U20and U17, U15, both females and Males. In the last year world Cup qualification round, they played Trinidad and Tobago after beating everybody else. They tied in the first game celebrated in the Dominican Republic and lost the other game in Trinidad by penalty kicks. They still have a lot to grow, but they are doing the right thing right now. They defeated Cuba in the Antilla cup and also Haiti last Year. They beat Puerto Rico 7-1, Cuba 1-0 and Haiti 1-0 to win the cup

The only team they beat in WC Qualifying was Montserrat :) Then they lost 3-0 in Trinidad and 1-0 at home.

What do you call the players from the Dominican Republic who play overseas ? especially in the Spanish 2nd division, what clubs do they play for ?
Do the Dominican Republic still have twin brothers playing in Italy?

dont know too much about Italy, but i heard that some dominican players are in Italy as well. If I'm not mistaken, you are making reference to the Valdez bothers. They are not dominicans, they are Panamenians.

No, JLG, you're wrong, NIF isn't referring to Julio Cesar (who plays for Malaga in Spain) and Jorge Dely Valdez (MLS???), certainly there was a couple of dominican brothers (twins) in Italy's second division, I cant remember their surname though.

A quartet of groups will play in four venues across the Caribbean in the next phase of qualifying for the 2003 FC Gold Cup, announced by the Caribbean Football Union.
The top two teams in each group will advance to the final phase of Caribbean qualifying for next summer's championship for national teams of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.
The final qualifying tournament was originally scheduled to be played as a 16-team tournament in Trinidad & Tobago, but postponed. The final eight-team phase is now set for April 2003.
Group A will now be played in Trinidad & Tobago from 13-17 November, matching St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Dominica and the host country.
Group B, pitting Cayman Islands, Cuba, Martinique and Dominican Republic, will be played on Grand Cayman from 27 November - 1 December.
Grenada will be site for Group C from 9-13 November, matching the host country with Jamaica, Guadeloupe and Barbados.
Group D will be a three-team group played in Haiti from 18-22 November, also including Netherlands Antilles and Antigua & Barbuda.

The Antillas Cup is a cup celebrated among the Antillas countries of the area. I followed the cup via www.listindiario.com.do and www.ultimahora.com.do and www.hoy.com.do . You might want to search for the Copa las Antillas where Cuba, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic took part at Estadio Olimpico in Santo Domingo.
