Camille Le fil (2005)http://www.pinkushion.com/IMG/arton962-150x150.jpg

is worth a try…

Indeed one of the best french singer of the last 15 years is Dominique A.

He's got an interesting unique and peculiar French prosody.

You can watch some clips on his label's website (Labels (http://www.labels.tm.fr/fr/artiste.asp?artiste=DO05H))

His last DVD is impressive: En solo aux Bouffes du Nord

it's music for 10 year old girls!

That outfit isn't exactly for 10 year-olds.

Fous ta cagoule!

it's a joke song by michael youn in the tradition of les inconnus... the title would lead one to believe it's about rioting, but it's actually about bundling up in cold weather to avoid the sniffles. a public health announcement as it were. :D

Talking about riots.

Passi - Emeutes (riots)

2000 ? Wow, talk about visionnaire stuff. Or maybe just lucid. Anyway, I thought about this clip in 2005 but did not find it online.

I bet if you asked Passi he would have told you that it was inevitable.

Speaking of rap

Anybody get La fouine's album? If you did what do you think?

Wow ! Since Doc Gyneco has joined the sarko bandwagon, it's obvious he he's got somewhat more dynamic. Well, is it really a good thing ?

Yeah, you're right here, Nanba. Since we all know that America is a country without culture, it's good to show them evidence of our clear superiority !

(please note I'm ironic)

"that little cutie" is alizée... it's music for 10 year old girls! she's jailbait herself, so don't get any ideas! :D

Yeah but that outfit is made for grown men! I love how Frenchies and latins can get away with more sexual stuff for youngsters than us yanks. Hell, I saw a kids Saturday morning show where the famale host was wearing stuff you would only see on a beach or a very hot day!

The Breton Rock band Matmatah :

Matmatah - Lambe An Dro

V4lLC_6-1HU

Lambé is short for Lambezellec, a block of the city of Brest where one of my good buddies happens to have gotten married last year. Which drew me to add a line to this song - a tune in France in 98 iirc - on my path to the Church...

"Si en Juillet tu veux t'marier, viens donc faire un tour à Lambé !"

Stereolab is an awesome band (well, the group's english but the singer Laetitia Sadier is french). Otherwise AS Dragon, Hushpuppies, Syd Matters, possibly Dyonisos. Good french rock bands are quite hard to find imo (French are better in electronic music).

Stereolab are incredible and amazing live, but not really a french band in the pure sense of the word.

Air have to be one of the best live French bands.

Um, back to stuff that old guys like me can relate to......

When I get a hankerin' for French music, this is what I like to listen to:

Herbert Leonard (Pour le Plasir)
Helene Segara (She does a duet with Laura Pausini in French and Italian which is kind of cool because I speak both)
Francoise Hardy (Moi Vouloir Toi)
Florent Pagny (Savoir Aimer)
Axelle Red (Ok, she's not French, but close enough)
Alizee (yeah, I like certain types of French "bubblegum" pop music)
Mylene Farmer (Ms. "Je, je suis libertine")
Tru$T (Marche ou Creve)
Phillippe Lavil (Kole Sere)
Daniel Balavoine (L'Aziza)
Victor Lazlo (Canoe Rose)
