Patrick Coutin. Not afraid to say that I like that song.

Originaly, it's a Jacques Dutronc song, though,
1967.

don't think so ... pretty sure it's an original song ... but if you say it is, it must be.

I guess you're right: I'm looking at his
discography and can't find it.
Don't know why I'm confused about this
and I'm not the only one:

Bizarre, bizarre...

As for the song, by Patrick Coutin, you can
hear it here:

Got it confused with "j'aime les filles" probably .. de chez Castel ... etc.

yeah but it didn't age that well imo ... good tunes though ... metro, c'est trop ... bombe humaine ... the first 3 albums were tops .. then lost interest.

and got split into 2 bands: Bertignac et les visiteurs and Aubert went on to something else with Kalinka.

does not hold a candle to TRUST though.

There was Niagara that was pretty good in the 80s also.

is it just me or was there something VERY sexy about Mylene Farmer?

http://www.sandeechan.com/cd-7.jpg

she had alot of crappy songs but "sans contrefacon" was good.

Edit: i can shake my ass to "maman a tort" too :o

...and so influential. listen to Beck's album "sea changes". its virtually a rip-off of Serge Gainsbourg's "histoire de melody nelson".

a class act.

gainsbourg, what class, it's a good thing he's french or he'd be so popular nobody'd like him anymore. recently i saw his first tv appearance... just an ugly bignosed kid scared to death of the camera, but le poinconneur de lilas... a song that good just knocks you over.

mylene farmer... not my cup of tea musically, but sexier than that tu meurs! spookykooky, and her fans the same. like a combination of madonna, elvis and the rocky horror picture show.

(This will probably please the 47 384 members of the "Bigsoccer Toulouse Gang" )

My personnal favourite songwriter is Francis Cabrel, especially his darker songs, like "la Corrida", "Hors-Saison", "les gens absents" or "Samedi soir sur la terre" (writing such a beautiful song about springbreakers !). His recent translation of Dylan's "shelter from the storm" is amazing. Wrote very nice love songs too, like "Presque rien", "C'est écrit", or the last one "Bonne nouvelle". I can't resist the pleasure of a looooong post :
---------------------
BONNE NOUVELLE

Bonne nouvelle

Je me battais comme tout le monde
Pour quitter mes ombres profondes
Des tunnels
Dans la grande course d'obstacles
Je t'attendais comme un miracle
Un Noël
Il est venu mon jour de chance
Ni en retard, ni en avance
Ponctuel
Quand t'as allumé ton sourire

Bonne nouvelle, bonne nouvelle

Je me battais comme tout le monde...
Dans la grande course d'obstacles...

I also listen Georges Brassens and like french jazz : Stéphane Grappelli, Michel Petrucciani, Django Reinhardt and a few others.

Ok, slightly off-topic thread...but never the less France related.

What Frenchy music does everyone (anyone?) listen too?

My personal faves: Serge Gainsbourg, Air, MC Solaar, Daft Punk, Indochine, Les Nubianes, and the singer from Ivy (who is amazingly hot) Dominique Durand.

Not on the list: Johnny Halliday, the kid who sang that dumb dance song "Dur d'etre bebe"

if you like MC Solaar, I would suggest checking out Fonky Family. They are incredible, if you're into hip-hop. Great beats and lyrics. The first album I heard of theirs was "Art de Rue"- awesome stuff.

a couple of my friends in paris were really into Tryo, but I never found it appealing. A lot of harmonizing, indie stuff.

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00004DTNZ.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Ganu probably covered all this stuff in the Cafe Saint Germain thread, but for some nice electro/house/jazz music, I think St. Germain and DJ Cam are some pretty surefire, great listens.

"Deep in it" from St. Germain's boulevard is my favorite, good for chillin.

Similarly, I really like DJ Cam's "summer in paris," although I think its on the SG Des Pres Cafe III compilation.

It's musically dated, but the 'teen social angst' lyrics are still spot on !!

Argent trop cher ! La vie n'a pas de prix !! :p

Sorry, that was my "Tenemos que hacer la revolucion" outburst...

PS : I don't know what you think, but France's boards are getting cooler and cooler.

PS : I don't know what you think, but France's boards are getting cooler and cooler.

They are getting off-topicker and off-topicker, i think. I guess it's the infamous "french vacation spirit".

France during summer and France during other seasons are completely different countries. Working from June to September is something other nations do.
