It's not an invitational tournament in the strict sense. CONCACAF sends out the invite and local Feds can decide whether or not to send a team. Also missing: Turks & Caicos, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Cuba, Dominican Republic ...just noticing it is mostly islands in the Greater Antilles who are not playing.

Anyway, it's kind of difficult to arrange group play with 18 teams so why not invite some guests...as long as it does not become a habit like the Gold Cup.

It's good to see life in the CFU. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Canada didn't arrive until noon on the day of their first game (delays in Toronto because of the Air France crash). However, they ended up beating Dominica 9-0. I think they have to play 3 games in 3 days now...

Actually Trinidad plays Surinam in the quarters:

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 15 footballers finished as one of the top scoring teams in the group phase of the Caribbean Football Union Under 15 Youth Cup when they hammered Anguilla 19-0 in the closing Group E match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts moved into Tuesday’s quarter finals where they will meet Suriname (third best runner up) That game is carded for the Marvin Lee Stadium (MLS), Centre of Excellence from 6pm.

Other teams into the quarter finals include Jamaica who came away 21-0 winners over British Virgin Islands at the MLS on Sunday to finish with the most amount of goals in the opening phase. The Jamaican outfit will take on Group D winners Martinique at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Tuesday from 4pm. Before that, Guatemala will face St Vincent and the Grenadines (first best runner up) in the other quarter final game at the HC Crawford from 2pm. Across in Tobago,Group winners Canada will meet Netherlands Antilles ( second best runner up) at the Dwight Yorke Stadium from 6pm.

Updates:
Trinidad 2 - 1 Suriname
Jamaica 1 - 0 Martinique
Guatemala 4 - 0 St Vincent
Canada ? - ? Neth. Antilles (I haven't seen any match reports yet)

Looks like the quarter finals were a lot more competitive than the group stage

Semis:
Trinidad vs Guatemala
Jamaica vs Canada/Neth. Antilles

I hope Jamaica and trini make it to the final, it'll be a shame if a non-caribbean team wins this tourny

Canada in Final after 4-2 Win Over Jamaica :D :D

Ottawa, ON – Canada’s U15 National Team has earned a spot in the finals of the inaugural Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Youth Cup in Trinidad and Tobago after defeating Jamaica 4-2 on Thursday evening in the tournament’s semi-final round.

Canada will now play Guatemala at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Saturday, August 13 in the tournament’s finale. Guatemala defeated tournament hosts’ Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 in the other semi-final.

The young Canadians, as they had done in all four previous matches, dictated the pace of the opening half and were duly rewarded for it. Mohammed Sylla, at the half-hour mark, gave Head Coach Stephen Hart the start he was undoubtedly looking for when he weaved through the Jamaican defense and fired the Canucks into the lead.

However, despite numerous chances to stretch the lead before the half-time whistle, the Canadians had to settle for the slim advantage heading into the break.

And just under ten minutes into the second half, Canada’s fears were realized when for the time in the tournament, an opponent had managed to breach their goal.

The Jamaican’s pressed Canada for the opening portion of the second half and the tactic seemed to work. Canada, for a brief moment, lost its composure under the resilient pressure and was punished in minute 53 when the Jamaican’s found their well deserved equalizer. The goal was the first against the Canadians in just over 410 minutes of play.

But unfortunately for the young Reggae Boyz, they could not sustain that pressure and in the end, a combination of fatigue and inspired play from Sylla in the second half saw off the Jamaican challenge.

Christopher Sheriffe started the Canadians rolling when he grabbed the go-ahead goal in minute 78 courtesy of a superbly weighted ball from Sylla.

Three minutes (81) later Marcus Johnstone out jumped his marker and pounded a header from a Canadian corner into the back of the net for the eventual game winner.

Minutes later (87) the Canadian’s put the match out of reach when second half substitute, Hasan Nasser, with his first touch of the ball, rifled a shot into the upper corner to see off the Jamaican’s.

The islanders netted a consolation goal as injury time loomed but it was too little too late and when the whistle blew for full-time, Canada had sealed a spot in Saturday’s final against Guatemala.

‘We defeated a very competitive Jamaican team this (yesterday) evening,’ said Head Coach Stephen Hart following his team’s victory.

‘The Jamaican’s were quick and strong in the tackle but I am extremely pleased with how we kept the ball for long stretches of the match and in the end stretched our opposition. Our finishing could have been better but all said a lot of these boys show promise.’

‘I am looking forward to the game against Guatemala on Saturday because it will offer us a different style of play to contend with – a style we must be able to deal with if we hope to be successful in CONCACAF,’ concluded Hart.
