Having watched our last 2 friendlies fellow Gunners and i notice by the absence of presence of stature in the middle of the park due the departure of PV4 i know he has gone only two miniutes but it is so evident that that unless Sir Wenger pulls something from the bag we could find ourselfs out of the top two..
Not to be too pesemistic for the new season i hope the Kids can step up to the plate or maybe if Alan Hasen says "you canna win the EPL with kids" we can be champs this season...

OK, you know what? I've really had enough of everyone coming out of the woodwork and pushing the panic button. Last summer, a number of people couldn't wait to get rid of him. Now suddenly you'd think we lost him in his prime. Newsflash: WE PLAYED BETTER WITHOUT HIM AT THE BEGINNING OF LAST SEASON. I'll admit I figured he'd be due for a bounceback year, and that we'd miss him some, but this is ridiculous. Every day, somebody comes from nowhere opining that we're suddenly screwed. It's the preseason and we haven't even played a meaningful match yet! At least wait until we're a few games in before coming out with all the doom and gloom. We have never, I repeat, NEVER finished outside the top two under Wenger and I doubt he wants to start this year. I trust he has a plan and that we'll sign someone. Remember a couple of years ago when our only signing was Lehmann and how everyone said we didn't have enough? Well hot damn, we only went unbeaten that year! I don't mind people having an opinion, but you'd think we were the pre-2004 Red Sox with how all the "fans" are predicting our demise before a single ball is kicked.
So, once and for all, let me remind everyone: VIEIRA IS GONE. GET OVER IT.
OK, I feel better now.

Very Passionate responce Viera's has gone and i will not get over it until their is a body to replace him. what i hightlight is a loss of leadership on the field
Unless Wenger finds somebody i can foresee a season of mixed results this is not panic stations but honest assessment.
I'm Looking 4ward to seeing the undoubted young talent come through but i fear it could be asking too much too soon..

With Pires playing in the center, we'll be lightweight in the center with or without Vieira. Blame it on Wenger for not playing a proper centre-midfielder in the past two matches to partner Flamini. Maybe when Gliberto returns or we get a new defensive midfielder will things be better.

Quite agree - Any more of this utter crap trap and it will get binned and I'll hand out Yellow's. Stop with the ********ing stupid "we are nothing without Paddy" bit. he disrupted our squad for 5 years, Wenger wouldn't of let him go unless he thought it would be ok. Until we are 5 games into the season and we have lost each one - PISS OFF BACK TO YOUR LITTLE ROCK YOU DUMB BASTARD.

Have to agree with Rick on this, but I understand why people are concerned, he's a huge player and the media are already writing us off for next season. But they did just the same before the unbeaten season. Just trust Wenger, he certainly knows what he's doing, trust the players and have some belief in Arsenal, THE greatest football club in the world and you'll be sleeping like a baby at night...
And at least you didn't suggest that Henry might leave now that PV4's gone :D

Related to Vieira's departure.....is Wenger resting Fabregas this pre-season or has he picked up a bit of a knock? Apologies if this has been covered somewhere and I missed it.

Both Gilberto and Fabregas were involved in games after the end of the season, so they're being rested, I think I've heard someone quoting Wenger that they're both playing some part against beveren and in the Comm Shield

Damn Rick...I saw LITTLE ROCK and thought you were getting all pissy with me! LOL
(Little Rock is a city in Arkansas for those of you that have actually been under a rock.)
Grimster's comment was priceless. With all the misspellings even I got confused. LOL

That's what I figured. I knew Fabregas played in the WYC over the summer, so I thought he was being rested but just wanted to make sure.

No. Making them go to Little Rock would clearly violate the Eighth Amendment. :D ;)

Fully aware that Gilberto was not playing but we are still abit lightweight without a player with a little more presence/experience/comand/Drive plus the unquantifiable psychlogical fear factor that has the opposition beat before a ball is kicked think Steven Gerrard, Lampard, Seedorf, Nedved, Ronaldinho, Roy Keane and not a Makale/Hamman/Fortune type player that is our GIlberto don't get me wrong every team needs a sitter who does all the less glamorous duties but no less vital for the balance of a successfull team.
This is why all of a sudden a far fetched story emerges that we are in for Essien (not to be believed for a second) the credence behind such stories lies in the fact that we need to fill this position or wel run the risk of pinning our hopes on a 18 year old kid (granted a kid with hugh potential and a player no better than Owen Hargreaves

But this is basically a "if you don't agree with me I'll give you a yellow card" kind of crap. Waht are you doing, trying out to be a Chelsea mod?
I don't agree with you. We were not impressive in the Amsterdam tournament and Paddy is a huge loss that cannot be replaced. Can you really say that the team was not better with a healthy Vieira in it? Can you really say that we flowed and controlled the tempo and form of the game the same way we were at the end of the season? He completely controlled most of the games he was in! And yes, I can read a score sheet to see that we didn't play a lot of our best players and combinations.
Yeah, we'll get over it and one or maore players may even rise up and we might be better than before. Arsene is a fine manager who can sometimes make mistakes and should be questioned. It's part of what makes talking about sports fun. To disagree doesn't mean that we love the club less, it might mean we care even more.
As to why he left, all I have to say is "5 year contract". We wouldn't give it to him, they did. If you think it is being disloyal to take a deal that is vastly better to you as an individual, then you are being naive. Football is a business for the players just as much as the clubs. And as a business entity, it is my opinion that we DID NOT take care of business in this case. Paddy was worth more and we should have held out for a higher fee. Since we disagree, I guess you'll have to yellow card me as I go PISS OFF BACK TO MY LITTLE ROCK!

I disagree on this point. Our midfield lads are young and still developing. You can't say neither of them has this. Wenger sees them every day in training and knows better than anyone what they are capable of. What I have seen of Hleb so far is impressive as well (I know he isn't CM - so sod off on that). He appears after a few games to be a very tough winger.
Arsene is not the type to make a knee jerk at any of this crapola--which btw is the reason he's the best manager for our club. I'm as disappointed as any about our lack of signings this off season. But that's why I am a supporter and not the manager.
I would have liked to have signed Baptista, Trez, et al.
I am certain Le Boss would have as well.
Arsene knows.
