With all of the papers saying we are the frontrunners to get Owen, it makes me wonder whether Fergie actually thinks he needs Owen in the team.
This is not, "do you think we need Owen?".
It is "does Fergie think he needs Owen in his team?"

First off, the topic is "Does Fergie WANT Owen?" But your poll question says does SAF need Micheal Owen.
A. Yes, Fergie wants Micheal Owen but he's already got Smith and Saha and he's waiting for Ole Gunner to FINALLY become fit again. Then there's Rossi, Ebanks-Blake also in the Reserves to consider.
B. Owen wasn't available at a REASONABLE price before. But all of a sudden Liverpool sells him for £8 million and now he's a cut-rate striker.
Thirdly, suppose Micheal Owen IS signed by Man Utd (and that Saha, Bellion, and OGS leave either by loan, sell, or retirement and Alan Smith becomes a midfielder) then the Media would create all types of Man Utd Striker Fiasco stories. Owen vs. RVN, Will Owen and Rooney play well for Man Utd and if they don't will it cause a shakeup for England?
Does Fergie want Owen, yes. But he also knows the potential quagmires that lie in wait for such a move to happen and in the future. And MO isn't worth the hassle and potential disaster.

I've seen nothing in any of the reports to suggest it's anything more than Fergie believing Owen is a good player. On the other hand I still haven't fully given up on Gill's "one more player" so who knows?

yes, i think fergie wants owen. But it doesn't mean its a good idea. Kleberson anyone? Djemba Djemba anyone?
Of course owen is on a different level, but we have a packed striker list that is eager to prove itself, and bringing the scouser in is just going to unsettle people and stifle opportunities for those who are deserving.
It would, however, bring a wide smile to my face to see Owen score against Liverpool at Anfield. For ManUtd. :D

It's going to take some getting used to, this private owernship tracking of players.
It was much easier to predict who we were enquiring about when we were a PLC. We could be tabling bids all over Europe at the moment and not know it....

Early in pre-season, i thought of Owen as a good signing for Utd as long as they get him for a reasonable price, however after watching Utd in preseason, i do think a bid for Owen would be an essential one.
If Smith is going to be converted to a midfielder, then that leaves three 1st team strikers, of which only one has had a reasonable preason - Rooney. Now I know pre-season is only pre-season, but tiny alarm will ring in some fans ears because RVN still looks a yard of the pace, and Saha, in my mind just wont make it at Utd as long as he has a hole in his ass, injuries aside, he just isnt good enough for a team of Utds quality.
So I definatley think there is room for a Michel Owen in the Utd team, no doubt. A Man Utd team with Owen and maybe a new midfielder then starts to look like a team with a shot at the title, until then im not totally convinced.

That can be a good thing cause we never know who we will get. I am just hoping we are just using this Owen thing for a decoy to ward off potential bid uppers.

What is wrong with lots of transfer enquires all over Europe. In case you havnt noticed Chelsea have set a new standard ! And ManUtd have to play catch up and if neccassary buy some players, Preferably to stop Chelsea getting the Best players on the market. But you pretend that the end of last season didnt happen and we have a squad at the moment to win the Preimiership,
( expecting some clever sarcastic remark from you like " he dosent stop does he " , would be good if you confirmed that you do think we can win the Premiership with this squad, then we would know your Opinion for the record.

Whenever someone of his ability becomes available, it will be a temptation. If we didn't have other pressing issues to resolve, SAF would probably bite ... but not now.

of course fergie wants owen he is just being nonchalante about it look at it this way. If fergie lays back and dosent add to the list of teams that are looking at Owen (right now Newcastle) it makes him Owen look less valuable meanin Real could sell for less.
Also we need Owen desperatly to add to our strike force. Rooney is of course been absolutly amazing but look at our other strikers. RVN has been well not the RVN we all came to adore the last 6 months. Is this a decline for Ruud or isnt it just bad form? Smith is probably my favorite player on the team he is a hard working fiery leader who in that case reminds many of keano. That is why SAF is gonna give him a look at a midfield role, which i belive he will succeed in. Saha is injury prone and hasnt been healthy for long in his tenure at Utd. He can be a wildcard player. If healthy he adds a lot to the team but cant be counted on being healthy. Ole is the man simply put but sorry to tell ya but his football days are pretty much dead. Besides the fact he is getting fairly old, he also hasnt played any football in the last two years because of knee injuries. ACL tears take about 2 years to fully regain cutting ability he will be limited this year, and after that who knows he could just retire.
That leaves us with only one consistent reliable striking option. We must go after Owen.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you're a noobie but you must've read about Ruud's injury problems last season.....

Or Fergie just flat out doesn't want Owen.

I don't see our forwards as the weak link in the team. And I definitely don't think we are desperate to add Owen. IMO, signing Owen will not add anything to our team, other than another sub. Sure he might give us a little more fire power than Saha (arguably), but at the cost of a player (Saha?) and money that could be spent on a new middie, buying Owen is just not worth it.
Saha is injury prone and hasnt been healthy for long in his tenure at Utd. He can be a wildcard player. If healthy he adds a lot to the team but cant be counted on being healthy.
We just won't let him go away for international duty. Problem solved... ;)

There are all sorts of success stories about players coming back from ACL injuries. Have a little faith. :)

No thanks.

Well we have got rid of another player, we seem to have so many good players we can just loan them of or sell them to Everton.
Or is there somthing in the pipeline, lets hope so. On topic!!!
PS:- I see Ruud scored from the Penalty spot and Fletcher scored from an open goal position wow!!!!
