is it just a coicidence that today Schalke announced they had agreed terms and a 6 mill fee for Baros ?

If we don't get him hes all but set for United according to the papers. I really can't see our board allowing Owen go to United so will we step in and "rescue the sunburnt sub"?

I have mixed feelings but at the end of the day Owen has paid his price for leaving us in a big way and I couldn't stand him being a manc.....

Whats your take ?

He scores goals but might not improve his position coming to us. I still hate that he left, but I've gotten over it. He'd be welcome but I don't like the price. He'd truly be dead to me if he played for the Scummers.

I wouldn't mind him coming back. He's not as quick as he once was but he is still a great in-the-box striker. Will it happen? Very unlikely.

I know we sold him for 8 mill but 11 mill from a proven english premiership goalscorer who is up there stats wise with Rush and Fowler isnt really robbery is it.

I hate him for what he did but thats life. I want whats best for LFC and I believe with Owen we have a shot at the title (as long as we can get another cb) without him I can't see it happening.

You really wanna see Rooney and Owen lining up on the same side ? Cos I DON'T!

Why is it so unlikely ? he wants out Real want money and have no respect for him.

The thing I like about Owen is that he creates many opportunities for himself. He times his runs almost as good as any striker in the world. Him and Xabi would be an awesome combination.

Unlikely because we don't have much cash. How much money do you think is left in the transfer kitty? 20M???? A quality defender is going to cost 8M + and if Figo doesn't sign then Rafa still has to fork out money for RM.

Knowing how our board feels about Owen I wouldn't be suprised if a little extra was supplied.

Xabi Prieto could come in for 5 mill and Ibanez is the cb whos top of the list I believe so its feasible.

buy owen back buy owen back buy owen back buy owen back buy owen back

if we sold him for 8 million
then bought him back now

technically it would only cost us his price minus the 8 million

plus, owen has been humbled, knowing that liverpool is going places and benitez is the man

take him back!

I just don't see it happening. He doesn't seem to fit into Rafa's plans for the whole team.

As a fan I would welcome him back -- I just don't see Rafa going for it.

As for him playing for someone like Man U or Arsenal, that would be very painful to see. Personally I would like him to fight for his place in Madrid and do well there.

Screw Owen. No way is Benitez going to pay 11 mil for the little traitor when he sold him for 8 mil. I'd rather have Baros then Owen. Owen not the same since his hamstring problems.

I don't think michael owen would emote if you smashed his little toe with a hammer. let him go to manure and fall with them.

My lasting impressions of Owen from the season before last season are the "hands-on-hips" + missed pen on a freezing day at Pompey in the Cup and constant complaining of not getting enough chances created for him and then missing a one-on-one, a tap in from 4 yards and a penalty at So'ton... Grrrr... He held the club to ransom, he put in little effort... I hear that Parry won't mind having him back but Rafa does not want to hear about it.

It's unlikely but not impossible that we will step in and take him back if a move to Manchester United really does become a serious proposition (according to today's press, it's firming up by the hour).

It's true that the board are very much in favour of bringing him back in, but also true that Rafa would need quite some persuading and that the board will be very careful not to impinge upon his feeling of absolute autonomy in the transfer market.

I dismiss all the talk about Owen being a traitor because as I have laid out a number of times here and elsewhere, there's actually nothing factual with which to back up that emotive but miscued notion.

I also remind everyone that we're talking about a more or less guaranteed 20 goals a season here. Now would you rather United get that, or we do? Because realistically, United are our benchmark for next season, we need to be breathing down their necks if we are to come good on our aims of massive improvement in the league. Their summer is not going great and it's perfectly conceivable that they will have a sluggish start (by their standards) and that their goal-shy form of the last six months of last season will persist into this season ... unless they buy a real deal striker like Owen.

We know this:

1) a move back to the Premiership is becoming an increasingly certain proposition for Owen - and this summer.

2) United are in serious need of proven, sustained firepower up front to add to the misfiring Shergar and the never prolific Rooney.

3) And they have the money to spend.

Besides, Owen in a rag's shirt. Come on. We can't have that.

Why is it Liverpool's responsibility to keep Owen away from Man United? If Owen really cared about Liverpool and their fans he would never even consider playing for the Scum in the first place.

If Rafa was to sign Owen, I'd welcome him back, but I think we need to adress other areas of the squad before we buy another striker. And as other have said...if Micheal Owen joins Man Utd, I could never forgive him.

I would have the biggest bonfire of M Owen books, shirts, autographs etc and could you imagine the reception he would get in his first vist back to Anfield wearing a Manchester Buccaneers shirt.

But what does the signing of Owen do the improvement on investments made in such players as Djibril Cisse, Peter Crouch, FSP, TLT. Whether you like these players or not they aren't going to get any better if they aren't playing.

Owen is a guaranteed 20+, but who's to say that Cisse when in full prime couldn't be a 30+ man capable of consistently leading the league in scoring? Or who is to say any combo of two of our young strikers could become a pairing that wins us titles.

Owen is great, but I don't think he can significantly inprove. Why invest so much on those other strikers and then spend 3milion more that we didn't have to on Owen?

If Rafa thought Owen would have made a difference long term I think he would have kept him.
