i dont know why everyone is on saha's back, the way we played in the first half of the urawa match was dreadful, ruud probably wouldnt have mustered much with that first half performance by the team. saha had to play with his back to goal, that is NOT saha's strength, saha's strength is his pace and skill, not his hold-up play, which, while he can do adequately, he isnt as good as someone like ruud or shearer at it.

look back at saha's performances this tour, he's done everything right, except applying the finish, much like ruud in that respect, its just a matter of match sharpness and fitness, im sure, by the end of the season, we will be commenting on a quality season for saha, if he avoids injury...

people have been slating saha constantly, but for what reason? what has ruud done in this pre-season that saha hasnt? some of saha's aproach and team play has been fantastic and a joy to watch, much like ruud's, and like ruud, as ive pointed out before, saha has done everything right, from the anticipation of the situation, to the first and penultimate touch, its just the finish which he has lacked, like all of our strikers, except dong, rossi and now, rooney.

i just hope fergie gives saha some proper chances this season, starting with the 1st leg ECL qualifier, i think, a fully fit saha would thrive in the left-sided forward role. he has the skill, pace, intelligence and movement to play there and, he can score, when fully fit and sharp. a forward line of rooney--ruud--saha would cause 99.99% of all EPL, and european defences a whole world of problems. furthermore, if saha is given his chances, and he takes them, he can score in excess of 20 goals this season....

I wish I could judge Saha but he's always injured. That's the problem he needs to overcome this season...

Unbreakable was decent, but to me the catharticism seemed forced (particularly the climactic release which pushed, more than pulled) and the cinematography almost seemed to be adapted too closely from the storyboard, even though that sounds like a cop-out on my part. Then again, I guess that was the direction which they needed to go in. Maybe it's just because I'm not a huge fan of the comic-book adaptatiosn for the most part (they're good movies usually, just not my cup of tea). Batman Begins & particularly Sin City, mind you... masterful movie-making.

I just picked up Clerks X yesterday (amazed I saw it on a shelf in HMV - stunned actually - as, to the best of my knowledge, the original Clerks DVD isn't even avablable in region 2, so I had the region 1 version). So, so, ssssoooooo worth it. Now, that is a movie, and Randall is one of the greatest characters of the 1990s if you have ever worked serving the public.

Ummm...no, it was a brilliant movie, one of the best of the last five years, but by no means best of all time.

Sin City was awful, Rodriguez practically tried to make a movie look exactly like the comic book, he threw out everything that makes cinema so great. PLus, the dragging narrative got more and more boring with every scene. Ultimately, it was amateurish filmmaking.

Well, it was made to look exactly like the comic book because it, erm... was based on the comic book.

I don't see how 'everything that makes cinema so great' was thrown out with Sin City. It had incredible visuals that were very original, fantastic performances all-round (Rourke, Wood, Willis, Alba, Owen, Del Toro stood out the most, imho), maybe because their characters were so good... the only possible exception to this was Rosario Dawson who was overacting, I thought. There were mixed outcomes and the stakes rose at all times. It was style with substance, and had that great noir feeling that I hadn't felt while watching a movie since 'The Man Who Wasn't There'. And the narrative didn't drag, I thought it worked well due to it's great delivery.

Just wondering what you thought it was missing? And (not taking a shot here, just curious), what are some of your favourite movies?

The only good part about Sin City was Jessica Alba. :D

What's with all the Sin City hatred? Finally a summer blockbuster delivered (it came out in early June here).

sin city was descent. could of been better. it was a good idea to try to make the film follow as closely as possible to the graphic novels as closely as possible in style as frank miller's work is simply amazing. however, in a effort to pay homage to the books, the movie came out as a bunch of character snipets instead of a movie. i enjoyed it, but then, i grew up reading the comics.

I actually fell asleep in the movie theatre while watching it.

To be honest, I've never been a big comic fan (I bought a few when I was 9-11 years old or so, but that's about it) and had never even heard of the Sin City series before this year, and only knew the title going into the cinema... but I still loved it.

Then again, I understood Hitchhiker's Guide having never seen or heard any previous productions of it, and really enjoyed that, too.

I'm just flat out confused now... nobody seems to have particularly liekd the movie, but apart from SirManchester's claim of boring narrative and it being too much like the comics (which is what it was meant to be), nobody really has any reasons why? I don't mean to get confrontational, but I simply do not understand why people didn't like it...

The first story was alright, but the rest were rather boring.

Everyone just wanted to see marv kick butt. Second story was ok, third was a sleeper.

I really enjoyed Hitchhikers guider to the galaxy, but thats probably because i did not read the books.

Zaphod was just such an awesome character

To comment on someone else's comment that the only good thing about the movie was Alba, wrong, she was one of the worst parts of it. She is an awful actress and she refused to be portrayed nude even though her character in the comic is nude most of the time. Sin City was shot entirely infront of a green screen, now this takes away a lot from cinema, theres no actual, realistic background or setting which takes away from the depth of a scene, Rodriguez opted to make it look too much like the comic book rather than transfering a comic book to the silver screen, its like a cheap way out in my opinion. In the end it was too stylish for its own good, the only reason it held up was because of Frank Miller's original story.
Since I'm a film major its really impossible to give you a set list of favorite movies but here are some that pop to mind quicker than others; 2001:a space odyssey, the shining, a clockwork orange,(anything by stanley kubrick) amadeus, 400 blows, citizen kane, apocalypse now, vertigo, rear window, yojimbo, throne of blood, RAN, blade runner, metropolis, casablanca, chinatown, knife in the water, the graduate, the maltese falcon, breathless, midnight cowboy, north by northwest, american graffiti, as well as the Star Wars trilogy, close encounters of the third kind, manhattan, and bill&ted's excellent adventure :D
