Ok, If you have digital cable and are in a major market you have the Fox Soccer Channel and GOL TV. Both are nice, but the game selection is limited to a handful of EPL games and maybe one or two Bundesliga & French league game a week. Only a small subset of these games are shown live. If you want CCC League games you are SOL.
This year though Setanta sport has started a US Sattelite channel for European soccer featuring:
• UEFA Champions League
• FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
• UEFA CUP
• International Friendlies
• European Championship Qualifiers
• Coca Cola Championship (previously Nationwide League)
• MUTV
• Chelsea TV
• The English League Cup/Carling Cup
• German Bundesliga
• Scottish Premier League
• Scottish League Cup
• Scottish FA Cup
• Six Nations Rugby
• Heineken European Rugby Cup
• Soccer Highlights Show
• Rugby Highlights Show
• Tri Nations Rugby
• Gaelic Games and other quality sports programming
For all US Crystal Palace fans (and Leeds and Millwal ... if they can figure out how to use a remote), it is now possible to watch your team from the cozy comfort of your home.
Cost?
12 dollars a month
How do you get the channel?
If you have Direct TV Sattelite service:
Just call Setanta and they'll add the service to your Direct TV subscription.
If you have Cable:
You have to switch to satellite. This is not an easy proposition considering how many of us in the states get our high speed internet service through cable. But, if you were looking to switch to Direct TV anyway, this could push you over the edge.
*OR*
Buy a Globe Cast World TV satellite system. Cost is 180 bucks. You get the box and the dish which you then own. You then call Setanta and they will turn on the service on that receiver. The Globe Cast box gives you access only to the channels you pay for (plus a bunch of free satellite channels). There is no monthly fee, you only pay the 12 a month for Setanta.
Setantas marketting department has to get its act together because the Globe Cast World TV satellite system is a great option for those that cannot switch from cable and want access to their content. My box gets installed on Tuesday. I'll let you all know how it turns out.
