I'm sure some of you are familiar with The Music of Your Life, the AM band radio syndicated program that features sappiness, limp pop, country lite, and lot's of cascading strings™®. This is not to be confused with Muzak, which is another thing entirely. Those in the DC area may recall the late lamented WGAY (yes really) 1260AM (with the late great Eddie Gallagher Show "don't forget the famous hot popovers"). Well I have a weird defect of personality that allowed me to listen to this stuff for hours. We don't have a TMOYL station in the DC area anymore but I was going to make an ultimate TMOYL playlist and am seeking suggestions for what I'm missing.

Get down with your wonderbread self and don't be hating, let the sweet strings set you free.

Mantovani
Ray Conniff
Percy Faith
John Denver
101 Strings
Bing Crosby
Frank Sinatra
Andy Williams
Dean Martin
Perry Como
Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass
Judy Garland
Ella Fitzgerald
Engelbert Humperdink
Nat King Cole
Glenn Campbell

I can say in total honesty that I have never heard this program. But anything that combines Ella and John Denver cannot be all bad.

Mantovani

That's gotta be the first Mantovani mention on these boards, ever.

A few I could quickly add are:
Henry Mancini
Mel Torme
Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gourme
Johnny Mathis

Now the top two of those are bona fide musical geniuses, who have written and produced some of the greatest, swingest tunes and performances ever -- but they've also churned out a good deal of schmaltz.

Steve and Eydie are kitsch, but they too have had a few swingin moments. I have a few great LPs of theirs that have I-swear-to-god a funky drummer break. Were I an actual mixing DJ, I could drop those in to some surprising sets.

Frank Sinatra
Dean Martin
Should be canonized (although Dean's forays into country music are horrendous).
Judy Garland
Live at Carnegie Hall is no joke.
Ella Fitzgerald
One of the greatest voices of all time.
Nat King Cole
I like him a lot.

If there was one thing I hated more than anything as a kid it was being forced to listen to WGAY while cruising along in the family Matador. For some reason, I associate WGAY with those tasteless mashed potatoes they served at the Hot Shoppes.

Good suggestions so far (can't believe I forgot Mancini). I realize this whole project must seem bizare but realize that it is. Crazy man.

I bet I'm the only person in the entire world who can listen to Scratch Acid and Mantovani.

Tasteless mashed potatoes at Hot Shoppes is exactly the vibe!

******** I forgot Lawrence Welk.

I had my wedding reception at Normandie Farm, and yes, the popovers were great.

I swear I've heard a TMOYL version of Highway To Hell.
