Im just curious after the game as to what you think of him?

I thought he played well, his 1st touch past Lampard was nice and his play against Diarra was good as well.

He needs to work on his shot imo but I thought his tocu and passing were superb.

just my .02 cents. What do you think.

He's a young player with plenty of potential. He needs to get away from the hype - make the move to a club in Europe that is known for developing youth, like PSV. Maybe he'll be at Chelsea's youth academy after his mother was invited to the Chelsea skybox during the game? ;) (anyone have a link?)

Let him work on his game without having to worry about being the savior of American soccer or the highest paid player in the MLS. No doubt he can end up a good player in the MLS like Lando, but if he's serious when he says he wants to play for Chelsea one day, he'll move to Europe asap.

You can stick Freddy Aduuuu up your ass! You can stick Freddy Aduuuu up your ass!

(I was singing that at the game tonight.)

He's ok. I don't believe his supposed age though. It won't surprise me if in the next 5 years we find out he's two years older than he is. I think the US media hypes him too much, I think US fans hype him too much. He's a very good player, not a great player. At the same time though, he's only 16. I'd like to see him progress in the next two years an awful lot. I think Nowak is using him correctly but watching him play, I don't get all the hype. But he is a boy amongst men.

Harsh man I'm sure any club in the world put Adu in there youth squad without hesitation.

Yes, and I would to. I said he's a good player. I just don't know if he will (or can) achieve the hype that builds arond him. Though I thought the same (and still do) of Rooney.

Fair enough but I'm not sure whether it matters if a 16y/o is a great player infact it would be extroidinary if he was. Perhaps it would of been better for him to disappear for a few years until he was a genuine top flight player.

Yeah but that's when we'll all find out he's actually 18!

Hasn't he 'dreamed' of playing for every top club in Europe at one point or another.

Postpone this thread for about 5 years from now. Then we can see if he will be a bust or not.

This has been shown to be wrong so many times.

And anyway what kid growing up in America would wait until his alleged 16th birthday to use his millions to buy himself a car.

When he is 18 he will probably go to Europe but he needs to work hard for 2 years and stay injury free.

I'll tell you what I was impressed with.

He has fantastic vision for a player so young, some of ther through balls he played, especially down the left side in the second haldf, were simply class, belittling his young age.

He has great potential.

He does need to realise he's in a team though and taking 35 yard shots against world class keepers isn't the way to go.

I think the US media hypes him too much, I think US fans hype him too much.

Besides Landon Donovan, he is the only other US soccer player (without breasts) that the media knows. So when its time to do a story, he is the one.

I would say that the fans are more "cautiously optimistic." Once again, the casual soccer fan only goes by what above media reports on. This is why Mia Hamm was "soccer player of the year" at the ESPN awards this month.

Freddy who? ;)

Not a bad player at all, not quite as good as players of a similar age like Reyes, Rooney, Robinho, Robben and CRonaldo – but the lad definitely has some decent potential. He was rather flat in the recent World Youth Championships in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1 ="">Holland</st1></st1:city>. Will he be in the USMNT squad in the WC next year?

"Similar" yeah, in the sense that a 26 year old and a 30 year old are of a similar age. The kid JUST turned 16. You know the WYC that he didn't play that well in? He'll be age eligible for the 2009 edition. By 5 months. And it was just a bad set of games by him...he was better in the same thing 2 years ago, where he played a wide role.
Will he be in the USMNT squad in the WC next year?
Possible but unlikely. There's one specific things he does better than any US player of any age, except maybe Beasley, and that's run at the defense and draw a foul in a dangerous place. At this point, there are too many other holes in his game to justify him going to Germany In addition, one of the US' deepest positions is "'tweener," guys who aren't exactly strikers and aren't exactly attacking mids. Further, he's not progressing like he might. Finally, his fallback position would be left wing in a 4-4-2...where the US has Beasley, one of our 5 best players, and Eddie Lewis, who is also very, very good.

But given his youth, who knows, he might suddenly "get it" like Eddie Gaven did, and pack 2 years of improvement into two months. Then he'll go. Otherwise, he won't.

IMO, the World Cup is coming 1 year too soon for him...I'd put money on him making it in 2007, if that's when it was.

Yes. I wouldn't pay much attention to whoever he decides to proclaim his love for on any given day...

Ah, yes, they do say that don’t they. There does seem to be some doubt about that though eh?

<o =""></o>How about a BigSoc thread with a vote on the matter?

<o =""></o>I vote the kid just turned 19. A six is an upside down 9 you know.

Segue way – In another thread I sarcastically stated that I didn’t think much of that Adu lad (which isn’t true, I think the lad has some genuine talent) and I was of course inundated with neg rep from irate DC United fans who obviously take it all waaaay to seriously

Lots of teenagers show promise, the jury however is still out on Adu –
the next Pele? I very much doubt it.

Adu has all the potential in the world, so it's very hard to say what kind of player he will develop into. He does have good vision and he is fast, but he has much to learn. Stop shooting from 40 yards out is lesson #1.
