View Full Version : Which Coerver series? (my reason for needing them)

Posted this on the player forum, but was told I might get a better response here.

Hi. I am a former HS and rec adult (indoor and outdoor) player (college had no soccer team) about 10 years removed from play.

I now find myself teaching HS and will probably be asst coaching next year. In the meantime, I need to shake the rust off (for credibility if nothing else) and wouldn't mind perhaps picking up a few pointers in the process. I usually relied more on instinct, positioning and knowing my abilities over technique and now it is time to pay the piper.

I am looking at the Coerver tapes, but which set should I buy?

The 1-2-3 Goal series......

or the Skills series....

For those who have seen both, is there much overlap of content between the two? From the descriptions, it is difficult to tell.

Any help from anyone who has seen either is much appreciated. Thanks.

Have you checked to see if your local library has copies of the tapes for loan? Mine has a fair selection of soccer videos, yours might too.

Here's a link to an excellent forum for soccer coaches:

I'm unable to open up your link...

From what I remember, there were the original series of video tapes that used the famous players names (Beckenbauer, Cryuff, Zola), then a 2nd series that had the same moves but without the names, and then the recent DVD level series with updates.

I own the 3 tape vhs 2nd level series where the moves are shown, but the pro names not used.

The tape that would probably help you the most is the first 1v1 tape. That tape showed about 10 different moves that include inside cuts, outside cuts, step overs, reverses, scissors, pulls, pushes, suppleness, flexibility and feel of the ball.

The other two videos are extensions of the first tape, but actually go more into the small group and team games.

As a HS coach myself, I'd personally recommend the Coerver tapes to get your touches back up to speed, and I'd recommned Success in Soccer magazine for the different exercises, games, technical and tactical aspects.

Welcome to HS soccer!

I am the Coerver Indiana coach, the tapes I most recomend for usefullness at the High School level are the Mastercalss series. They contain a fantastic mix of ball mastery moves, exercises to practice them, and the fast break attack stuff on part 3 is unbelievably pertinent especially to high school boys who like to run and gun anyway.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with...you know me and the other licensees do team camps and coaching clinics by request don't you. They aren't cheap, but they are immensely helpful to both players and coaches.
