It's just been announced on local news here that Sir John Hall has confirmed that he has been approached by an, as yet, unnamed party regarding buying his majority share of the club.
Recently, Fat Fred has been been buying more shares, but there has also been rumours of a Malaysian consortium wanting to buy the club. There are also rumours of a British businessman selling his company in order to take over. Could the fat one be the mysterious buyer or is he buying more shares in the knowledge that the share-price was going to shoot up?
We wait with bated breath.

Stake Increases
Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has increased his stake in the club for the second time in two weeks.
It was announced yesterday that Shepherd Offshore Ltd, of which he and his brother Bruce are directors, had bought a further 150,000 shares in the club for £71,625.
This brings Shepherd Offshore's holding to 26.7% of the total shares in Newcastle United.
A takeover bid would have to be launched if any shareholder reaches a 30% stake.
Last week, Shepherd Offshore bought 100,000 shares for £47,500. The deal comes after Mr Shepherd bought 1.1 million shares in December.

My gut reaction: God, no. FF taking over is the LAST thing we need.
My logical thought-process: Let's wait and see who exactly this 'mystery' buyer is.

So that would eliminate Mike Tyson from the race. Other than that everyone else is qualified.

Any of you Newcastle based posters heard any rumours on whom might be behind a takeover?

How much does SJ Hall own? If he is majority, and over 30%, why doesn't he have to buy all the rest? Is it because he's the one who has been selling out?
I don't get how this all works sometimes (obviously).
Thx,
Jay!

I think he owns 26% less then the threshold for a takeover bid.

According to the Telegraph, Sir John owns a 28.5% stake in NUFC and his son owns another 12.6%, but evidently they're considered separate owners. The reports seem to believe that FF's 27% holding is more of a concern for any takeover bid, however.

The story about the ex-Sage software guy seems the most likely to me, really can't decide if this will be good or bad. Looks like football is going this way, would maybe like to see Man U and Chelsea in 5 years before it happens to us though.
hmmmmmmm?!?

We dont need a takeover in the leeds mold, but does it always turn out like that? all i know is that we need investment, ambition and maybe a new manager, lets just hope we arent put in debt

question I'd have is it a pal of Glazer?
Big club lots of tradition, overseas support is good.
Stick a fraction of the money Glazer spent and some big NFL owner could snag himself a tidy profit by the end of the year. They only need to buy a couple and the TV contract is looking pretty shakey.
hummm wonder if the NFL boys got together brought the likes of
Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Everton Aston. Spurs, Celtic, Rangers with Man u and a couple of others they could opt out of the EPL and start their own outside the FA & SFA game,
Is this conspiracy theory or what?

Exactly after all in the NFL before the first ball is kicked they get 100 million for tv revenue the rest is icing. And with no infrastructure they just rake it in.
