A choice.
Play your best against the best in the world even if it weakens you against league competition. We tried that last time. It bit us in the butt. We were okay against Pumas in DC, sucked in Ciudad de Mexico, then sucked in league play.
I say, do it again. I know our 11 can beat the most expensive team in the world. When they are playing their best to prepare for a hard season. And they I don't think they have lost since the Conservatives held the PM post.
Yeah. Right.

Kingdom come for eurosnobs has arrived before Jesus.
Play the starting 11, they're pros and wouldn't pass up the chance to play Chel$ea.

I'm going, but I'm not too familiar with the Chelsea players. Yes, I know they were about the only team shown on FSC last year, but I just couldn't psyche myself to watch them unless they were playing against a team I had an interest in (yeah you know, those with Amis). So, let's see, their keeper's named Czech something or and their backup's got an Italian name and Arjen Robben is a monster on the wing. Then there's that Irish dude Damien who deserted Blackburn, right?
I don't know. They'll be the ones in blue, that much I know for sure. I hear they call Moscow home.

At the very least, we play Olsen and Quaranta and rest/play for a half Moreno and Gomez. Oh yeah, Perkins for either a half or the entire game. Everything after that is gravy.

We are going to kick their ass.
Isn't DC still undefeated against English clubs? Why is that going to stop by playing some group of out of season, overpaid jerks who don't even care about the game.
Nick played badly on Saturday just to lull them into a false sense of security, and players like Quaranta and Adu are going to dominate up to their potential. Josh Gros will have a game where he can actually cross, and Gomez won't look like he's going to pass out after the 65th minute.
With how easily Arjen Robben gets hurt, he should be wetting the bed knowing that he's going to be playing against Dema, and Simms is finally going to put a couple of those 35 yard shots in to the upper corner.
They get lucky on one deflected shot and DC wins 3-1. When we multiply that by 100 to equal the salary spent by the teams, that turns out to be 300-1. Not a bad night even if it is in Maryland, giving money to Danny Snyder.
Seriously, it's going to be a great experience for United, and this game is far from a foregone conclusion. I hope this anticipated heat wave sticks and Thursday night is muderous conditions on the field. That will only help DC win.
It would be so sweet to see United stick it to all the eurosnobs that are going to show up to this match. Of course, if DC does pull it out, all of the "preseason" and "lack of effort--why would they care about this game?" comments will come out, but that doesn't really matter when the scoreboard is in your favor.

Ok, I'm still new to following MLS and DC United so I don't know much about the history of DCU against English clubs...I hear we're unbeaten but have we ever played EPL Champions before? Anyway, I'm going to this game to root for DC of course but I'm a little nervous for us :o . Especially because they aren't playing at RFK. Do United players get to practice at FedEx at all before the game to get used to playing on a new pitch, or would that be a disadvantage to Chelsea? How do you guys think the turnout will be in terms of Chelsea supporters?

We've never played the defending EPL champions, but we've played and beaten several EPL clubs including Tottenham, Newcastle, Leeds (at the time EPL), uh, I'm forgetting some...

I'm not exactly a DCU fan, but I hope you lot beat Chelski (and hope you do sing "stick a blue flag")...Anyways, does anyone know if Chelski will be holding any kind of open practice in DC? If so, any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I really hope United brings heart, soul, and a kick-ass 'tude to this one.
A win would bring MLS serious respect and notice in the UK. No doubt it would be given begrudgingly, but it would be given.
Can you imagine a Friday Sun cover that says "Tops CFC Falls to Yanks"????
As for the more practical side, Gups needs to be sharing what knowledge of the EPL game he has, and I would'nt mind seeing him sub in late in this one.
If Jaime brings serious attitude, it will make a huge difference in the result.
In games when his head isnt there, we have played a flat, disjointed game.
Tino seems to be stepping it up a notch, a goal in run of play would be well
appreciated. Freddy has hopefully broken out of his mini-slump, and gained some confidence from yesterday's wicked strike.
I hope Pietr's drive to win infects, no, suffuses the team with energy to take the Brits on a ride they may not expect from lowly MLS.
VAMOS UNITED!!
